Question about Dell Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My Dell D600 laptop stopped working today. Coincidentally, I had just turned it off to try running a test on the RAM because the PC had been slow and locking up for the past month or so. Anyway, when I push the power button, nothing happens. When it's plugged into the power supply, it still doesn't turn on. However, the green battery light flashes once every 6 seconds or so when I do plug it in. The battery itself says it's full when I press the contacts. I've tried the F8/F9 fix notorious to this line of products. Could the motherboard be gone?

1- deattach the RAM , run the laptop without (RAM) you must hear som beeps
2- put the ram back again in the same slot

if there is no Beeps then CPU is dead , it should be replaced

Could it be the internal power supply? Or something else on the motherboard?

The responsible for triggering the life signs ( lcd screen and fan..etc) is BIOS

I have dell latitude d600 that start for 2 or 3 seconds and then turn off

The problem maybe the RAM, it could be faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you. Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.

Latitude D600 PC Notebook: Installed new RAM 1G on Dell Lat600,Now CPU is run...

It is not the memory causing the issue. You either have a clogged fan and heat sink or a bad fan. This will solve most heat issues with the laptop.

Install this software and put the fan on manual high. That should help a lot if the fan is still working.

Upgrade RAM in a Latitude D600. one bay seems to fail

The memory bay is a part of the motherboard. Try each stick in each bay to make sure that the problem is the motherboard itself. Sometimes memory is incompatible with a particular laptop. Sometimes there is a maximum allowable memory. The maximum for your PC is 2 GB.

I,ve a dell lat d600,when i powered up today the screen is all flickery, colours are all wrong, theres a square shading around the mouse icon, any help!

Have you tried to change the resolution. Right click on the desktop in an empty area and scroll down to properties, change resolution, click apply and ok. If this doesn't work, one of your ram modules may have come loose in its socket. Turn the laptop off, open the bay that contains the ram sticks and re-seat both sticks. See if that works

Dell Latitude D600 - RAM not recognized

One of the DIMMS might be incompatible or faulry.
Put one DIMM in at a time to determine which is not working.
If they both work separately then it appears they are incompatible together. Try to get the DIMMs from the same manufacturer, with the same specs.

Dell latitude d600 doesn't turn on

The test Dell advises to narrow down this issue is to remove the battery, hard drive, ram, and optical drive.  Next plug in the a/c power cord and you should get some LED's coming on. If not it points to the motherboard.
