Verify the battery is charged, this has happened to me. the battery dies without warning and the camera just hangs in its last state, usually with the lense extracted.

Lens won't retract

According to Sony, storing the camera lens-down in a warm area for an extended period (a week) can help re-lubricate the retractor drive in cases like this.

This camera seems to have a predisposition to lens retraction problems. Try some gentle nudging, Even a small piece of debris can jam the mechanism, so it might just need a little push or pull.

My samsung st700 is brand new have it only a week and it has stopped working. when i turn it on the lens extents and then it stop, i have no screen and it will not respond and then the lens wont retract....

Hello,

If you have been using this camera outdoors, then the one causing your problem is a grit of sand jamming the lens. Hold your camera with your right hand with the lens facing the ground. Next, tap the camera's base to your left palm while powering on the camera. You might want to do this several times. If it still wont work, and you can avail of the warranty to save repair cost.

Hope this helps.

My cannon power shot SD1300 IS was dropped with the lens extended and now won't turn on or retract. If it is able to extend when turned on it won't focus properly. Is there any way I can fix it? I got it...

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.
If power is an issue (no electrical function when trying to turn on), then please see this other article.
Now if you do get the camera to turn on and off properly, try taking many pictures of objects at varied distances. With time, this may help the camera to reacquire its focus.

I have a samsung 860 digital camera ang my problem is the lens... the lens is still retracted even its turned off... before it happened the camera have a low battery.. and when i charged the battery for...

This may be similar to another solution posted. Try heavy duty batteries - I used ACDelco Super Alkaline, but any brand of "heavy duty" AA should work. Make sure battereis are not cold; low temp causes any battery to lose power. If fresh heavy duty batteries do not help, it may need professional service. (DO NOT try to force the lens back to retracted position - something WILL break.)

My lens to my camera wont close when it is turned off,it doesnt even move when it is on. The screen just tells me to turn it off and on again, but that hasn't worked. Please help!!

If the lens on the camera is stuck out, look to see if it's a little crooked. If it is, try to gently straighten it. If it still won't retract, try to gently push it in as you turn the power on.

Polaroid i735 Camera won't turn on. Lens stuck.

I had the same problem, and fixed it by wiggling the lens a little, when turning it on.
After a few tries, it finally wiggled free, and the lens retracted.
