SOURCE: Can't get my TEAC External Floppy Drive FD-05PUB

Was it ever recognized?
Is it recognized on other computers?

Notebooks sometimes have poor power output on USB sockets; try all available USB sockets, and as a next step try a POWERED USB hub - ie a hub with it's own, separate power supply.

The driver should come with your computer. I have the same problem with a Thinkpad. Have you found a solution?

Hi,

The below is on the basis that the drive is visible in "Computer"...

This can be tow thing, one the drive is not receiving enough power from your USB port, try unplugging any addtional USB devices connected to the PC, if this doesn't work try a powered USB hub. Second the floppy disk is faulty or the drive itself is faulty.

Hope this helps, let me know how it goes.

Thanks

The USB Floppy Drive shouldn't require drivers under Windows XP (according to TEAC, here: http://goo.gl/BvTcV).
Make sure your Windows XP installation is completely up to date, as Windows Updates often contain driver updates as well as system updates. If this still doesn't work (or your system is already completely updated), there are some additional troubleshooting options here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283658.

Try a brand new disk put something on it and go from there the disk you may be using may be no good anymore. Try this first before getting another replacement disk I would stop using these floppy and go to a USB Stick for storage purposes since they are going obsolete. Just a suggestion! That would solve your problem using floppies for storage besides they do not hold much information compared to todays storage devices. John

Cannot boot to dos

You must be sure that the "USB boot" functionality is supported and enabled on your PC BIOS, otherwise the drive won't boot. Furthermore, be sure that the floppy disk you are trying to boot to is bootable in the first place, otherwise you can check some nice "boot disks" on (guess what?) BootDisk.com

Enjoy ;-)
