I've got one of these from a customer. I cleaned the cartridges contacts and printer contacts 3 times. It looked like it was the same. I then removed the cartridges and when reinstalling gently rocked it side to side more towards right. After this it started to work. Further investigation showed that cartridge holders are plastic and it does go out of shape. Not only you have to clean well but make sure they are making contact. If you take the new cartridge out after you put in than you will see which side it is making contact visually. That will determine the side you need to push towards.

I have installed 2 new ink cartridges. The orange

Are the cartridges genuine new hp, or are they compatibles, or refills? If not genuine hp, get some and see if that solves your problem.

I installed new print cartridges and now i get the error message "refer to printer documentation?

Place the old cartridge back and see the result. If the printer prompt cartridge error or low innk, then the issue is with your new cartridges. replace or claim warranty

Put new cartridge in officejet j6410 and overnight it now says cartridge on left needs replacing. put old cartridge back in and it still says the same thing

These types of severe cartridge errors (i.e. "refer to documentation" / "incompatible cartridges", "print cartridge(s) problem", "cartridge in wrong slot", etc.) typically indicate the internal micro-electronics of the HP #74/75 cartridge are damaged. The cartridge's electrical wire runs at rear and lower side of the ink cartridge, are very delicate and are somewhat susceptible to ink attack over time, which can lead to premature failures. In addition, the older the cartridge the higher the chance of an internal electrical failure. I suggest you first run a 'Tap 41' diagnostic test to check cartridges electrical health (this is a forced test); you may also bypass the error (temporarily) on most models which use HP 74/75 cartridges. Incompatible print cartridge

Take out the print cartridge. Clean the points on the cartridge with cotton swab and try using it again.

Print Cartridges Refer to documentation (No function works)

I was getting this same VERY unhelpful error and the only thing that solved it for me was to buy another genuine HP black cartridge (350XL). As soon as I put it in, it cleared the error and sprang to life. As a matter of interest, before this happened, the HP Toolbox utility was also saying that the old cartridge was nearly empty. So why on earth doesn't the printer tell you the same thing??? Come on HP - get your firmware sorted. Disappointed.

Printer will not recognize refilled black HP cartridge (#74)

Try to get your printer to recognize the new cartridge; go to start - printer and faxes -right click on printer - preferences (printing preferences) -settings -load factory settings. Print test page Ctrl+P

Please post if that worked.
