It sounds like the application that is needed to uninstall the version 8 is corrupted or missing. Try reinstalling version 8 first then uninstall it before loading version 9. If you can reinstall version 8 and it asks you if you want to repair or install, choose install to get all of the files back before uninstalling it again. Always uninstall from add/remove programs. If deleting it from program files instead of uninstalling it correctly it will cause problems.

Have you already installed the program? Have you gone to add remove programs and tried uninstalling the program then re-install it? 8.1.2 is out so here is a link to the full install. Try those solutions and see what you come up with. If it does not work I will need to know what Operating system you have.
