I am having a problem with my printer. When I turn it on the copy light is on and the feed switch light and the alarm light and it says in the screen release the scanner lock switch and turn the power off...

Issue: ERROR LCD: Release the scanner lock switch and turn the power off and back on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Solution: Unlock the scanner lock switch

The scanner must be unlocked before turning the unit on.

Turn off the power.

Lift the document cover.

The scanner lock switch is on the left hand side of the underside of the document cover.

Slide the scanner lock switch to the release mark (an open padlock icon).

Lock the switch before transporting.

Close the document cover.

Turn the machine on.

If machine still is not working repeat the power off / on cycle waiting 5 seconds in between.

When I turn on my MP830 Cannon the error "release the scanner lock switch and turn the power off and back on" appears. I have done it . The scanner appears to attempt moving, but does not get very far

hello, what i have found out so far, sometimes a small bit of tape they use on the scanner and ribbon cable rubs on glass, then catches on the white calibration area, but not all the time, when a machine has been used really well, and taken care of, the scanner just fails, replace whole top unit, not the doc feed, just scanner unit only, if main pcb still good machine will work just fine

My MP830 all in one ink jet printer is having problems...It says release the scanner lock switch and turn power off and back on. I have tried five times, I have unplugged it from the wall also leaving it...

Open the scanner cover so you can see the platen glass. Now look on the left side of the glass, and you should see a sliding switch, probably blue in color. Move the switch to the icon that shows an open padlock (unlocked position).

Scanner lock is on

Do you not have a manual or 'get you started sheet?' It is the first thing you do when unpacking a scanner is to unlock the shipping lock. In all probability it is under the scanner base so if it is a lifting item[to access the printer] check there,or on the backplate of the scanner where all the sockets are. Failing that get onto the Tech support site at Canon.
