I am reading all these post with GT4010 having the same problems post after post as mind does. My computer is just two years old and that seems to be the norm with everyone else complaining. I feel like Gateway had to have known if you can't even buy a motherboard from them as one of the post stated. Something is fishy here. Way too many with the same problem of fan going, inside green light , no blue turn on light. Won't boot up, tried everything.
Don't understand the complaint, because GW has never required me to pay for such updates. I've had mine about 3+ years w/o prbs.
In the early years, I used their tech support, and wound up getting a plug-in card that was a poor choice for what I wanted -- they've since revamped and refer their parts out to tigerdirect.
When I first bought the machine, there was a problem trying to boot into safe mode -- GW Tech worked very hard to fix the problem. Ended up being a "not bad" work around. Wasn't until after the warranty went out that I found the true problem was the way the boot up was configured -- pointing to a non-existant directory. GW should have caught this -- I'd given them enough clues, but they ignored them.

Gateway, Or the "cow computers" require you to update and pay for ALL drivers necessary to keep your computer working. As far as a motherboard is concerned, there is a part number on the board and you can go to many sites to buy a used or new motherboard, but, and this is IMPORTANT, you need to know the type of SOCKET your processor is plugged into. Your processor is made one way, but with different pin configurations.
Your "posts" are messages from other people complaining about Gateway, they're not fix actions. Hopefully this helps. My e-mail

When I push the power button, the hard drive
light will come on for about 4 sec. and then blink out and the machine
will not enter into the bios to start the boot up process. I checked
the power supply and it is good.
we just had a thunderstorm here recently, and the computer completely fried. no turn on light, no green light in back, no nothing. pressed the pwr button several times but did nothing. looked inside and i found nothing wrong that appealed to the eye. they should have recalled the GT4010 and never made computers again. sorry to say, but i'm very angry at this group for having defects (Gateway, not you guys) and errors with their computers. even the hard drive corrupted on my other one when it wasn't even a year old! that was horrible and i couldn't do a thing about it. gateway is horrible. let's just end with that.
Motherboard fried, died, and was laid to the side! Prior to that the hard drive was currupt. but had it since 2005 till 2009 worked all but the month i bought it and the month it sat in the gateway repair warehouse, still sits on the shelf or on the floor.
