Can anything else connected to the router connect to the internet? if so then the problem is in your computer if nothing connects to the internet through the router then it could be as simple as either:- the router is just a router and not a modem not all routers have the broadband modem in them and you need to connect the router to the modem as well as to your computer (I have both modem and non-modem versions of netgear routers the non-modem router I use as a repeater in another part of the house) if the router is a modem/router then you need to have the contact details in it for your internet service provider so it knows where it is connecting to

How to set up wifi

Your Dell D610 may have a built-in wireless card, if so the install the wireless driver.
SETTING UP A BROADBAND CONNECTION
First you need to decide what type of broadband andInternet service you require and these are -
1. DSL that uses your existing telephone line.
2. Cable that uses a cable service and can include a cable TV service.
3. A wireless 3G network which uses the mobile/cell phone network and can beseparate or combine with your cell phone account
Note - Combined services generally offer discount pricing and may include amodem/wireless router.

If you use a wireless router with the DSL or Cable Internet service and yourlaptop has a wireless card then you can also connect to the Internet at WiFihot spots like McDonalds, Star Bucks, the Airport etc.
If you use the wireless 3G wireless broadband service, then you can access theInternet anywhere where your ISP has 3G wireless coverage. You need to checkthe service coverage area where you need Internet service.
Once you decide what type of broadband your require, then you need to checkwith the various Internet Service providers to see if they can offer and thecost of the various plans.
Note the download limits and the associated additional costs if you exceed themonthly download limits. Once you sign up with a Internet Service provider, their documentation will include setting up instructions and/or installationCD.http://www.fixya.com/support/r6165994-setting_up_broadband_connection

Please refer to the following article:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r6556655-troubleshooting_laptop_wifi_connectivity

If you have tested the possibilities outlined in this article & made sure none is the root cause of the problem, then 2 more things to do here:
1. Try uninstalling the WiFi adapter drivers, reboot the computer, then re-install them again.
2. If this does not work, then you might have a defective antenna. You can replace it, but you will have to disassemble the LCD screen panel, plus you will have to remove the cover on the bottom of the laptop in order to disconnect the 2 thin wires attaching the antenna to the WiFi adapter board. You will also need to remove the laptop's keyboard in order to be able to remove the 2 thin wires connecting the antenna to the WiFi adapter, & then laying the new wires attached to the replacement antenna.

Can not get the wifi working on my dell latitude d610

sevendust4li,

I have just had the exact same problem and i just fixed it.

You are best off downloading & installing the Intel Proset/Wireless software. This will fix your problem automatically. Once you do this you have the option of letting windows manage connections for you or just let the software do it. Your choice.

Make sure that you download it from the Dell site though as the drivers on the Intel site are only generic. Dell drivers and software are specific to your laptop and are directly setup for your laptop.

Here is the link for the software I got and i believe you need and let me know how you go mate. Iether click it or cut and paste it into your browser address bar.
