The C66 is the most useless piece of **** I have ever had in the office! Since day one it has made problems i.e. printing slower than the 5 year old HP we have, making false "out of ink" messages like now where the only ink cartridge working is the non-original one!!!
It says "no ink" in any of the colors and 85% in the black. No matter what we have tried(all of above) nothing helps. It seems there must be a cummunication error somewhere. The SSC Service Utility says it cannot communicate with the printer but the counter reset has been made with no effect.
The left red and the green lights are on all the time and nothing works. This is 5 mins before a75 USD item gets a one-way ticket to the garbage - unless I get some clues about what else to do.

The Waste Ink Pads are saturated and the waste ink counter has exceeded its limit. The Waste Ink Pads should be replaced as soon as possible. You can overcome this problem temporarily by using the SSC utility - download from

and reset the Protection Counter. This will stop the red lights flashing and restore normal operation. However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you must change the waste ink pads before this happens. This requires the disassembly of the printer.

The C64/66 service manual can be downloaded from here:

Should you decide to have a go at changing the waste ink pads, let me know and I can supply some notes on opening the case - it's a pig and the service manual is not that helpful.

Download the SSC utility, install it and run it. The first job is to set the printer model to yours i.e. the C66. Having done this, a good check is to refresh the SSC ink monitor - if it refreshes OK, it means the SSC is working OK with your printer. Now close the SSC. In the bottom right hand corner of the screen (the "system tray") you will see a new small printer icon - this is the SSC. Right click it, and from the menu select Protection Counter. Then choose to view the current value and you should see it exceeds the limit. Then choose to reset the counter, and lie that you have changed the Waste Ink Pads! Then view it again and you will see the counter is zero. Switch off the printer , then on again and you should find it now works again. Since you have opened up the printer (well done - this is not easy!) you can now remove the Waste Ink Pads, wash them, dry them, and replace them. To remove them you need to detach the Automatic Sheet Feeder (ASF). ThIs is simply held in place by screws at the rear, and on the left. Remove them, and the ASF pulls out from the rear. Remove all the pads from the bottom wearing rubber gloves or using long-nosed pliers, noting the order for replacement. Fill a bucket with water and drop the pads in for 24 hours; this will remove most of the ink, repeat the soak a couple of times, then put the pads somewhere to dry - then replace them in the printer.

Ink red light on . which colour is out?

When red ink light flashes - one or more ink cartridges is low. When you print, a message on your screen will tell you which one(s).

When red ink light remains on - one or more ink cartridges is empty. When you try to print, a message on your screen will tell you which one(s).

Furthermore: When following the procedure for installing a new cartridge, if the red ink light was on or flashing, pressing the ink button will cause the carriage to stop with the cartridge that needs replacing under the "ink out mark" (ink droplet with a slash through it).

Epson C66 red light stays on for ink

The first time you install ink cartridges, the printer must charge its print head for about 90 seconds. Wait until charging finishes (the green power.jpg power light stops flashing) before you turn off the printer, or

it may charge improperly and use excess ink the next time you turn it on. If the printer stops moving or making noise, but the green power.jpg power light is still flashing after 5 minutes, turn off the printer. If the light is still flashing when you turn it back on, contact Epson.
Turn off the printer, then make sure the ink cartridges are inserted completely and the ink cartridge cover is closed completely. Also make sure no packing material remains in the printer. Wait a moment, then turn the printer back on to clear the error.

Epson C66 problem

Without the benefit of a response from any of rickyostrom, liusgarciaca, or hotdog233311, I think we can say the problem lies with the fact that your magenta cartridge isn't printing. You can confirm this by carrying out a nozzle check print.

If any of you would like further assistance in restoring your magenta to working condition, please do a new post to this effect.

If your having an error that says "Parts inside the printer are at the end of there Service life" it means that you ink pad is full/ what you can do is change your ink pad and then download an ink pad reset utility so that you can reset the settings/ Make sure to change ink pad before you reset it becuase ink will leak if you don't change it. For the flashing lights, try to check for obstructions inside the printer if not, make sure that ink clicked in and the cover for the tray is closed
