Question about Brother HL 5250DN Laser Printer

1 Answer

Connect 5250 DN by LPT1 and USB?

Since I'm having problems with my network, I want to connect a second computer to the printer by USB; the first is already connected by LPT1. This is a temporary workaround. Can I do this? Will I be able to print from both computers?

Thank you.

Sure you can.
But you have to share your new USB printer on the network if you want to use this print (usb) from the computer that has LPT1 printer connected on it.

Sorry, I thought that you had two printers instead of one.
You have to read the manual of your printer to use at the same in the same network the same printer with differents ports.

If you have problem with your LPT1 port, Unplug that port and You can set your printer via USB and share with the other computer and this will be fixing your problem

I assume that you have a working network.
If not you need a router, or a cross cable connected between computers via ethernet card.

If you have one PC connected to the printer via USB you can share the printer to your Mac computers easily:
If the printer is connected to a Macintosh computer via USB:
1) Open System Preferences
2) Click on Print and Fax
3) Highlight the Printer and Check the box Marked "Share This Printer On The Network"

If the printer is connected to a windows computer via USB:
1) Download "Bonjour Print Services for Windows" from Apple's website
http://support.apple.com/kb/dl999
2) Install it on the PC connected to the Printer.
3) After Installing the Above, Run the Bonjour Printer Configuration Utility and select the Printer you want to share and it will share it over the network to all your apple devices.

How to use HP Laserjet 2300 dn offline. This printer is a network printer

Thank you for contacting FixYa with your inquiry.
This printer can work very well via a standard printer cable directly connected to your computers LPT Terminal. Most of Microsoft's current Operating Systems already have the LaserJet J2300 drivers built in and will automatically install when connected.
To confirm your connection to go to your computers printer setup and ensure the driver is configured to print from LPT1 port and click on print a test page. (Start/Settings/Printers/LJ2300 - Right Click on properties then click on the tab for ports. The general tab should have a button to print test page)
The network card that comes with your printer (Jet Direct Card) will not be used with this method nor will the Ethernet cable be required.
Hope this helps helps. Please keep us updated and remember to rate this answer.

Unable to connect Dell 3000cn to wireless network (cable from printer to Linksys router). Printer shows ICP address, laptops set to share files, but computers do not "see" printer at all. Ideas?

The printer driver needs to be installed and the printer port changed from LPT1 or USB to a TCP/IP port.
Please refer to my tip on Setting up HP network printer. the principles are the same for setting up network printers with a print server.

Brother HL 5250 DN status shows "error". Won't print.

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Printer time out error!!????

is your printer connected with a serial cable, if so, you may have to install the printer and software again, but if you are connected via usb and this is the given error then there is a connection fault as, you may already know that LPT1 is not a usb connection but serial cable.
