Question about Apple Macintosh Server G4

1 Answer

Password forgotten Actually the password is not forgotten, I bought 2 G4 desk tops for my kids from University of Arizona surplus auction of course with no OS X discs. Only to find I was unable to get pass the login page on either. Short of buying new hard drives and software ... is there any way of reformating the hard drive without losing the OS X? Four years ago, I bought a G5 fell in love with it and converted to MACism. Never had had any real problems with it, so I've never had to learn all the many fixes, I had to on the PCs I've had. I know MACs are not prefect but will do till it comes. Thanks in advance for any help, Rudy

You will need OS disks. You say you bought a G5, use those disks.

I bought an HP DL380 G4 from here, and called them up any time I had a question like this. These guys were amazingly smart. Perhaps you can call them up and pretend to be a customer?

The administrator password doesn't work for some reason, I don't know how to boot into safe mode with the hp g4 proliant machine? any advice?

Hi,
If you mean your windows administrator password is not working and you want to change it and want to boot in safe mode then use the option of F8 at boot time this should take you to safe mode of windows. You can also use Hiren Boot CD to change administrator password if you own that server. Hope this answers your question.

HP Proliant asking for a power-on password

If it is a hardware password, such as the motherboard, the there are two possibilities that I know.

1. Shutdown and unplug the power. Remove the battery on the motherboard wait 30-seconds and replace it.
2. There should be a CMOS reset jumper on the board. Typically, you move it over one pin, power on the board then power down and put it back to reset. Best bet is go to www.hp.com and check Support & Drivers for documentation on your ML350.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

I have a dl 380 g4 it powers up, the hard drive lights come on. I get all green lights no amber. I get no video and the keyboard lights do not come on. It acts as though it does not POST. I have swapped...

Unfortunately, this is most likely a bad system board. Have you tried to RDP or telnet to the machine after it boots? That is, assuming you have some form of remote access enable of course.

Pasword

On the os 10.4 install disk, there is a password reset utility that will let you get by it. To boot from the CD, restart the mac and hold down the C key with the cd already in it. It will start, but slowly from the cd. At the menu at the top, pull down the reset password utility.
Good luck, hope this helps
