HP G72-253NR Laptop - Using an External Keyboard

I would like to use an external monitor, mouse and KEYBOARD with this laptop. I got the monitor and mouse working OK but I can't figure out how to switch to the external keyboard. I have the keyboard connected with a PS/2 to USB connector but it doesn't work. Thanks

SOURCE: keyboard problem

You just need a new keyboard - those are easy to come by check ebay.com and search for C640 keyboard. New ones should only be about $30-$40.

To remove the keyboard you just remove all the screws on the bottom of the laptop that are marked with the letter "K" then carefully pop the keyboard up.

Let us know if you need further help!

SOURCE: keyboard and mouse frozen

Since I bought the Aspire 5100 in Dec. 2006, it has crashed 4 times. When it crashes, a weird screen comes up, and everything is frozen, so you cannot do anything but power it down. When you try to power back up, most of the time it will not boot up. Rarely, it will boot up but the keyboard and mouse are locked, so again, you can't do anything. The first time it happened was March 2007, about 90 days after I bought it. I sent it in to Acer, and they replaced the motherboard1.gif. The same exact thing happened in June 2007 and in Oct 2007. They replaced the motherboard each time. With this trend, I knew that if it happened outside the 1-year warranty, Acer would tell me I'm on my own, so I called to complain that they never fixed the problem. They did confirm that outside the 1-year warranty, I would be on my own! (Sad way to stand behind your product and to take care of your customers!) Well, it just happened again mid-February, they told me to take a hike, and I got my attorney involved. In researching this problem, I spoke to a very experienced computer repair center who confirmed they have been getting in these models with the same exact problem. He confirmed that something is causing the connections for the keyboard, the mouse, and the USB ports to blow on the motherboard, which is why Acer kept replacing the motherboards on my unit until I was out of warranty. And to compound the problem, even if I wanted to have it repaired, it seems the motherboards can't be gotten. He also pointed me to posts from Italy, from Ontario Canada, and from several other states in the U.S. with users with this Acer model outlining the exact same scenario. So, I'm stuck with a computer that doesn't work and that cannot be fixed! What Acer should have done was a recall to fix their obvious design flaw OR to make it right with customers who paid good money for a reliable laptop4.gif and instead got in essence a defective product. But that would cost Acer too much money, so I guess they figure they'll field complaints until people get tired and give up. I'm working on a legal alternative. Contact me at ejulaw@hotmail.com if you'd like to explore options. My name is Ed, and the ejulaw stands for Equal Justice Under Law, which Acer counts on us not exercising.

I want to use a external monitor keyboard mouse and close the lid and keep working on the computer

I'm not sure if you'll be able to close the lid because you might need a laptop that is designed to work with a docking station to do that.

Anyway, you can hook an external monitor, usb keyboard, and usb mouse to the laptop and continue working as usual.

I have a Dell Vostro and would like to lock the laptop and use a monitor and wireless keyboard whilst at home. Can you tell me if and how I can do this?

This is assuming you are using Windows 7. (Since you didn't specify. -_-)
Software lock at same time = No. Hardware lock at same time = Yes.
When you have the keyboard connect and the laptop plugged into the monitor, go to your Windows Mobility Center. Go to "Power Options. Look for "What to do when you close the lid." and tell it to do "Nothing".
Then close your laptop and lock it.
Viola.

My hp dv7-1245dx has no response from keyboard and touch pad. I can go into the bios but ther keyboard stops working once in bios. is there anything I can do?

See if you can operate the laptop using an external keyboard. If you can this will help for the next stage.

1.) Did you upgrade from Vista to Win7? This can cause issues with the keyboard filters.
Try to (using the external keyboard and mouse) download the latest drivers for the the motherboard

2.) Have you at any time spilled liquid on the laptop? Dried residue, especially from sugared drinks like coke can cause not only shorting of the circuits but also corrosion.
If this is the case, you will need to open the laptop to try and clean the affected area, you might need to replace the keyboard also

Purchase just about any USB keyboard and it should work with your laptop as an external keyboard. Even better ... get a wireless keyboard/mouse set for complete freedom!!

HP Pavillion ze4400 can this laptop use an external mouse & keyboard ?

Any external USB mouse can be connected to the system. As well as USB keyboard. Or specifically if you go through HP, the mouse part number is: NR152AA, and keyboard is GM321AA. As far as non-HP products you will need to check on compatibility on each. Hope this helps you in this question.

How to block VGA port on my laptop

in most cases, you can switch between display modes by using the function keys. the keys from F1 to F12 on your keyboard should contain various symbols (sometimes in blue). one of those symbols looks like the front of a monitor (on some laptops it says "LCD/CRT"). look for the key with the monitor symbol (or the text "LCD/CRT"), press and hold the Fn-key on the bottom line of your keyboard and then press the display mode function key. then you will see if the image on your display switch from one screen to the other.
if you cannot find such a key, you can disable the external display by right-clicking your desktop and choosing properties from the drop-down menu. on the "settings"-tab you should be able to see two virtual displays. click on display 2 and then uncheck the box that says "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor".

There should be a key on the top keyboard row on the laptop, probably one of the "F" keys that you use along with the "Function Key" on the laptop to enable an external monitor. The laptop display will turn off and the external monitor should come on.
