Pinnacle Studio Plus version 10 Keeps Crashing

If Studio was launching for some period of time and then it stopped launching, it is best to try to determine what changes have been made to the computer recently and undo the changes to see if it has an affect on the problem. Here's a short list of what could affect Studio's ability to launch:

  • A Studio patch was applied but it didn't install properly
  • The graphics driver was updated
  • Hardware was installed
We recommend using Windows XP System Restore. You can obtain more information on how System Restore works from the Microsoft web site at:

Troubleshooting steps for Studio hangs or crashing while launching (starting)
1. RESTART THE COMPUTER. Try restarting the computer
2. WAIT A FEW MINUTES: If Studio still won't launch, wait a few minutes to let it finish launching. We have noticed on some computers that it may take a little while for Studio to completely launch. Studio 10 users click here to see the FAQ on this.
3. LATEST VERSION OF STUDIO. There was a launch problems in previous versions of Studio 10 that are now fixed in the latest version. When troubleshooting any problem, it is always best to be on the latest version of the software.
If you have Studio version 12, download the latest version here.

If you have Studio version 11, download the latest version here.

If you have Studio version 10, download the latest version here .

Note: Studio 11 patches will only patch a previous install of Studio 11. Studio 10 patches will only patch a previous install of Studio 10. Etc.

If you have an older version of Studio (Studio 9 or 10, etc), it is advised for you to update to the current Studio software. The current version is Studio 12. Click Here to go to the Studio 12 Upgrade page.

How to download and install a patch:
  • When downloading the patch make a note of where it is being saved to. We recommend saving the patch to the desktop.
  • Before installing the patch, make sure that you do not have any other programs running. Studio must not be running.
  • Once it is fully downloaded, double-click on the patch to begin the installation.
  • Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the installation. Reboot the computer after applying the patch.

4. SAFE MODE: Try launching Studio in Safe mode. In Safe mode, many device drivers and applications do not load. If Studio will launch in safe mode, then the issue is most likely a configuration problem with your computer. NOTE: We do not recommend using Studio in Safe Mode. This step is for testing purposes only. To start in Safe mode:
  • Shut down the computer
  • When you turn it back on, tap the F8 key every couple seconds until a menu pops up. (If the XP splash screen appears, the F8 keys was pressed too late so restart the computer and try this step again)
  • On the menu, choose Safe Mode, and then press the Enter key
  • Launch Studio

If Studio won't launch in Safe mode, then Studio many not be installed properly or the install may be corrupt. We recommend uninstalling and reinstalling Studio.

    If Studio launches in Safe mode, then the issue most likely is due to device drivers and application conflicts. Continue with the troubleshooting steps below.

    5. Disconnect all Capture hardware (if possible or practical)


    5.1. PINNACLE EXTERNAL HARDWARE: If your capture device is a Pinnacle external device (i.e. Dazzle DVC 80, DVC 85, DVC 90, DVC 100, DVC 120, DVC 130, DVC 150, DVC 170, 500 USB, 700 USB, MovieBox DV, MovieBox USB, MovieBox Deluxe) then:




    • Unplug the capture device from the computer

    • Launch Studio again

    • If it still will not launch then go to step 2

    • If it does launch, then reconnect the capture device and wait until the computer loads the driver, and then click on the capture tab

    • If this works, the go to Setup -> capture source and select the correct capture device.

    • If this does not work go to step 5.2.


    5.2 WEBCAMS: If you have a webcam, try the following:




    • Launch Studio with the webcam plugged in

    • Launch Studio with the webcam unplugged


    If one of these steps works, then the webcam will have to be set every time, so that Studio will be able to be launched.

    5.3. CAPTURE DEVICES IN THE COMPUTER: To see what capture device are in the computer, do the following:




    • Go to Start -> All Programs -> Studio 10 -> Tools. Click on AM Capture

    • Click on the Devices pull-down menu


    Try physically disconnecting the devices on the Devices list
    Try uninstalling the driver for the devices on the Devices list.

    6. DOWNLOAD AND REINSTALL THE DRIVER FOR THE GRAPHICS CARD. During the Studio software launch process we do check that you have a DirectX compatible graphics card. Download and reinstall the latest version of the driver for the graphics card that is on your system. Many customers have nVIDIA or ATI graphics cards and the latest driver can be found at:


    nVIDIA is at: http://www.nvidia.com

    ATI is at: http://www.ati.com

    If you need assistance with this step, please contact the support department for the graphics card company.

    7. DOWNLOAD AND REINSTALL THE DRIVER FOR THE SOUND CARD. During the Studio software launch process we do check that you have a sound card and video card that support DirectX. Download and reinstall the latest version of the driver for the sound card that is on your system.

    If you need assistance with this step, please contact the support department for the sound card company.

    8. REMOVE THE SOUND CARD FROM THE SYSTEM. Some older sound cards may not work well with newer versions of Windows. This can be verified by shutting down the computer, removing the sound card and restarting. Obviously this is not practical if the sound device is on the motherboard, as in laptop computers. If Studio now launches, more than likely you need to replace the sound card (if you already updated to the latest drivers in step 3).

    9. END BACKGROUND TASK: There are a couple ways to accomplish this. One is to use a Startup Manager. There are many shareware and free ware programs that assist a user in eliminating programs that launch on Startup. Use an Internet search engine such as google, yahoo, etc to search for "startup managers". We don't recommend/endorse a particular one, but we do suggest you try a couple to see which one works for you and is easy to use.

    Another is to use the Microsoft System Configuration Utility (MSCONFIG), which is part of Windows, to disable programs that launch at startup of Windows. We recommend disabling all programs and then re-enabling them one at a time until the conflicting program is located.

I have pinnacle studio plus version 10. I loaded the 1st disk w/o a problem. When prompted to load disk 2 I did and it will NOT load. I reloaded disk 1 again and then tried to load disk 2 and IT WILL NOT...


Have you tried loading disk 2 on it's own with the autorun feature turned off and then exploring the drive to see if you're computer's drive is able to read the disc? If the disc simply isn't loading, the disc is most likley has an error which is preventing the DVD drive from reading it and you'll just simply have to appoach the seller to replace it.

researching this problem has led me to find that no drivers are good for vista... the update is your 1st choice..

next choice is replacing the card with another one thats vista compatible...

Pinnacle studio 11 will not install on my windows xp. I have service pack 1,2 and 3 on here. Yet it says when I go to install it , that my comp does not have service pack 2 and will not install. I think sp...


May 12th, 2008: Some customers reported problems installing Studio Plus version 11 UPGRADE (11.0) or Studio version 11 Standard (11.0) on systems with Windows XP Service Pack 3 was already installed (a message asking for Windows XP Service Pack 2 is displayed). Pinnacle is investigating this problem.
We can offer you the following workaround:
  • Copy all the content of the Installation DVD of Studio version 11 to your hard disk in a new folder.
  • Download http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/Studio11/WelcomeSP3.exe
  • Copy the file WelcomeSP3.exe to the root of the directory where the Installation DVD was copy
  • Double-click on WelcomeSP3.exe to launch it. It will take few seconds and then the Studio version 11 installation will start.

The dvd created from pinnacle studio plus 11 has no audio on the final project


the problem with this is that during the creation process, you did not test for audio output before creating it

1.make sure that the software(pinnacle) is working properlly.
2.when loading the video/audio files to be created,test it output before continuinig.check to make sure that sound connection is okay.then try burning
