Question about Sony PlayStation 3 40GB System
I bought this PS3 off of craigslist, the guy fixed the YLOD but broke the ribbon cable clip on the mobo, i have managed to wedge a piece of a gift card in with the male end of the ribbon cable to keep it in place, now when I turn it on I no longer get the 800...... code for general malfunction, instead I get all the way into the XMD screen, but the **** blue LED is solid and I can not get around it, i have taken apart the drive and reset the gears but nothing. THe drive is one of the older ones without the infared sensor on the top instead it has the switches inside under the "deck" of the drive, If i set the drive so there is a disk inside then do the emergency eject the "deck" goes down and the cd will eject, but when I try to put the cd back in I can force it in until my finger meets the face of the drive but that's it, the motor never takes over and pulls it in; why would it? it thinks there is already a disk in it, Someone please help me fix my confused blu ray player. PS it is one of the old school drives that has the dual lenses, one red and one blue. Contemplating getting a new ribbon cable and new clips to hold it in place because I think one possibility is that I messed up the ribbon cable while wedging into place and some of the contacts are weak or not correct.

if you take the system apart, check the blu ray optical sensor. its the really small board on the top front of the BluRay player. if it is positioned wrong it wont accept disks correctly. its worth a shot, and a easy fix. if you dont want to try that , i would suggest sending it to sony or selling it.

ok sounds like you did every thing correctly and switching the board was in the right directio however the controller chip on your daughter board very well could be damaged since these boards rest directly overtop of the gpu and cpu the heat goes smack dab into the metal caing wich in some cases the case toushes the bottom of the daughter board resulting in a over heated controller chip
possible repair is
replacing that chip
with a infectus chip
i am still working on this problem
ive had 2 good repairs matching problem..hope this was helpful
