when i get to step 9 of the installer CD, it won't detect the router, even though the power, internet and port lights all seem to be doing what they're supposed to.

Mi laptop dont find my router

Power on your computer. Remove contents from package if you have not done so already. Locate the installation poster, a CD and any instructions. Place the router installation CD into your computer tray and start it up. Do not power on or connect the router to your computer at this point. Follow the directions from the router CD that are displayed on your computer screen. This may include typing in a series of numbers in your web browser address bar that look like: http://192.168.1.1 (depending on the router manufacturer). Click the "next" button on the bottom when prompted as you complete the steps. Connect the router to your modem and computer with the appropriate cables and power it on at the appropriate step (not before). The one from the computer (usually a color) goes into your networking jack in the back of your computer and the other (grey/white) goes into your router in any of the jacks numbered 1-4. The color does not matter; it just keeps you from getting the connections confused. If you need a diagram or further assistance, look at the poster that came with your router. Follow any additional steps the on the install screens. And test the router to ensure it can access the internet. This is the most important installation step. Set up the security as needed and print out the security key page and store in a safe place. Take note of any passwords or settings you place on the router as well. This can include WEP or WPA key. You may wish to print out this information for the router and keep in a safe place. Remove the router install CD from the drive once you have completed all the steps. Leave the router powered on and attempt to access the Internet from your laptop computer or other computers on your network. Double-click Internet Explorer to get online. Restart the computer if prompted. Be sure all the lights are on your router when it starts back up and you are able to access the Internet. If this functions properly, your router is installed properly. Hope this helps.

You can do it manually without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

I just had to replace the hard drive in my dell laptop and now it wont connect to the internet ..but the wireless router is on. the wireless light blinks orange instead of solid blue

1.You will have to install the router again via the installation instructions on the installation CD
2.Since you replaced the drive all the driver are not loaded and have to be reinstalled.
3. Unplug the router and then plug it back into the pc and call your ISP to see if you have proper connectivity.
4. download all firmware update from the manufacturer when you gain proper connectivity. You will need a Ethernet cord to do this at first to your PC.

I have DI-604 in line between Windows Vista computer and cable modem. Works fine. Bought DIR-615 (wireless). Several places instructions say, ""Insert the DIR-615 CD into computer and click Install Router....

Contrary to the many warnings not to install the router before starting the installation with the CD, I got the installation to complete only AFTER I installed the router inline thusly:

1. Power everything off.
2. Remove DI-604.
2. Install and connect 615 router to computer and to modem.
3. Apply power to router and modem.
4. Apply power to computer and wait until Windows loads.
5. Insert 615 installation CD.
6. Follow the directions.

Linksys wireless G CD will not install

Router setup
If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed.
then:
Connect the Cat5 cable from the modem to the WAN port on the router. Then connect a Cat5 cable from any port on the router to your PC's network port.

Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
