You will have to report faithfully the message returned, you cannot use your interpretation of the message. Error messages are codified. Each one will correspond to very particular error conditions. I did check the manual for all possible error messages and there is none that states wrong info.

My hunch is that there are errors in your data, but I can't say what type of error: I do not have the actual message returned. Verify you data, item by item, and try again.**To make sure that the calculator is well configured to do statistics**

- Press [STAT][5:SetUpEditor][ENTER]
- Press [2nd][0] (CATALOG) and press [PRGM] (C) to jump to the first command starting with C.
- Scroll down to [ClrAllListsts] and press [ENTER]

- Press [STAT][5:SetUpEditor][ENTER].
- Press [STAT][1:Edit..]
- Enter your data in L1.
- Press [STAT][CALC][1:1-Var Stats].
- Command echoes on main screen.
- If ONLY one list contains data, it must be L1.
- When you do not specify the list in the command line it will take L1 by default.
- If L1 is empty and the data is in L2, or another but L1, the name of list must be specified.

If you are performing 1-variable statistical calculations, that presupposes you have one set of data only. Technically all you need is ONE LIST where the data is stored (ex. L1) . However if you have some data elements that are repeteated, you may choose to create a second list where you enter r the frequency (L2 or other). Both lists must have the same dimension (length).

When you bring up the 1-var calculation menu , the list of data elements is specified on one line (Xlist) and the fequency List is specified on the menu line Frequency. Thus there is no need to enter two lists on the Xlist line.

1 var means only one: where would it put the comma?

Pay attention to the name: 1-var statistics mean you have ONLY one list of data. So you cannot use two. However if some data values are repeated you may choose to create a FREQuency list. So at most you have two list, one for the data values and the second for their frequency.

When you use the 1-var stat, specify the list that holds the data value (Xlist) and one the FREQ line specify the list that has the frequency

If your data values are in L1 and L2 or any pair of lists, then**you should do 2-var stats.** You will get the stats of both lists, you can also perform regressions, etc.

I have followed your description and entered bogus data in Lists L1, L2, and L3.

I hit STAT then CALC then Option 1, which is 1-Var Stats. In this context you have only one set of data. If the data set contains many repeated values you can enter the frequency for each (repeated) data item in List L2, inserting 1 if an item is not repeated.

Thus when you do 1-Var Statistics you have at most two Lists (L1 contains the data values, and L2 their frequencies).

If you press the 1-Var Stats calculation option, the calculator takes L1 as the default data list so you see List:L1 and the ALPHA cursor blinking

On the secoond line you see Frequency: and nothing else on the line.

On the third line you have Calculate.

To use the regression a+bx,

Press [ENTER] after each number. Cursor moves to next row. After finishing the data of Listt L1, use arrow right and UP to the head of list L2. Enter the values in list L2. Press Enter after last element.

4. Press [Y=] to display Y= editor. Clear function Y1 and all functions or remove highlight from the = in Y2, Y3, etc.

5.Press [2nd][STATPLOT]1 to select 1:Plot1

The blinking cursor on ON means graph will be drawn. Type chosen is Scatter plot. Mark chosen is a dot.

Press [ZOOM][9:ZoomStat]

If you think that the curve look like a straight line you can try to do a linear regression.

Press [STAT] Arrow right to highlight [CALC]

Select [4: LinReg(ax+b)]

LinReg(ax+b) echoes on run screen. Press [2nd] L1 Press comma, Press [2nd] L2 press comma Press [VARS] Arrow right to select [Y:VARs][1:Function] [ENTER][1:Y1]
