Do you notice the printer getting detected in the device manager?

  • Debbie_beach Feb 07, 2012

Thank you for sending me to the device manager because I did not know to check this. When I checked the device manager it says NO Printer Attached under the Universal Serial Bus Controller.
Does this indicate that the new printer cable is bad?

  • Debbie_beach Feb 08, 2012

I tried a different USB with no change with the printer.
I am a little confusted because I just read in my device manager NOTES -that printer information is not included in Device Manager. To see if a printer is installed or to manually update printer drivers, open Devices and Printers. Am I missing something here?

After connecting the printer do hear a alert sound in your PC? to confirm the printer installation; please check "Device and Printer" in the control panel and look if the printer is listed there.

Before we conclude that cable is faulty, we have few things that need to be checked.

  • In the device manager check for "Other Devices" and expand it, you may see an device with exclamation sign on it. Right click and uninstall the device.
  • Disconnect the printer USB and reconnect it back.
  • Windows 7 detects the hardware and automatically installs the correct driver.
Note: When you connect the USB cable to the printer, and then to the computer, Windows 7 activates Windows Update. Windows Update searches online for the most recent product driver on the Windows Update site. If the online driver is more recent than the driver stored in Windows 7, the computer downloads and installs the updated driver. The Windows Update process takes place automatically. Therefore, you might not notice that the process is in progress.
If you dont see any notification on connecting the printer, try plugging to different USB port.
If non if these works, replace the cable.
Good Luck!!

I have installed HP 1220c printer on windows 7 in several ways. Printer seems istalled OK, when I try to print test page or other, the printer doesn't react. Although the print appears and dissapears...

Unistall any previous you have installed for your device.

The Driver for Your Product Is Included in the Windows 7 Operating System (i.e. Win 7-32bit & 64bit).
Simply connect the printer to your computer with a USB cable, and Windows Update automatically installs the driver for your product.

Hope it helps.

Hp deskjet 9650 not compatible with Vista 64-bit

Hp Deskjet 9650 printer owner, sorry to inform that there is no Microsoft Windows Vista operating system printer driver solution available for your printer. But there is an alternative way to workaround it so that you can do basic printing with your printer.

As a workaround, an alternate printer driver solution included in Microsoft Windows Vista operating system can be used to perform basic printing to the printer. However you might find that some of the product features are no longer available when using this alternate printer driver, but that is your best option right now.

The alternative HP printer driver that will work with your printer is HP Deskjet 9800.

The Next thing you do is: Install the driver for HP deskjet 9800

1. Verify that the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable is NOT connected to the printer.
2. Click Start , click Settings , and then click Printers .
3. Click Add a printer .
4. Click Add a local printer .
5. Select the Use an existing port check box.
6. In the Use an existing port drop-down list, select LPT1: (Printer Port) and then click Next .
7. Under Manufacturer on the Install the printer driver dialog box, select HP .
8. Under Printers , select the appropriate alternate driver for the printer (deskjet 9800) and then click Next .
9. In the Printer name text box, type the printer name and then click Next . The printer driver starts to install.

NOTE: The name of the alternate driver displays as the default name. Change this name to the name of the printer, if desired.

10. After the screen stating that the printer was successfully added displays, connect the USB cable / Parallel cable to the printer and to the computer.
11. On the Found New Hardware screen, click Cancel .
12. For USB connected printer, please proceed to step three . For Parallel port connected printer, please proceed to step four .
NOTE: If multiple pop-up windows display, click Cancel on each window.

Next is: Configure the printer

1. In the printer folder, right-click on the name of the printer and then click Properties .
2. Click the Ports tab.
3. Change the port from LPT1 to the newly created USB port, click Apply .

Last step: Print a test page

1. Click the General tab.
2. Click Print Test Page .

Good luck Cheers!!!

Printer Problem

HI!. Most printers have a self test facility to do a test page without being connected to any PC. If you can find that out from the HP site, that's a first step. Also, check printers in Windows Control Panel to make sure it is the "Default" printer. Try to send a test page. e.g. right click on the icon for the printer, select 'properties' & look for "Print test page". If all these work then next you would open Windows notepad and just type in a couple of rows of text, then print. If that works, then you try your original application program to prove that it is the cause (somehow). Check all physical connections & re-load the s/w driver.
Also, you could take your printer to a friends place that has the same Windows OS and see if it installs OK. Try & test print etc.
Hope this helps you to narrow down the problem.
