Get High speed for the love of god.

No just kidding, i know, some of us cant afford it at home.

Most likely the phone number that the modem dials into may need to be updated for your service provider. If i remember correctly, you usualy have a list of numbers in the modem settings pick a different one.

You can also call the provider and they will help you.

I would recomend just paying the $40 a month for a cable modem and high speed and hooking straight to your network ( NIC ). Dial up is slow and you spend more time messing with dropped connections and slow speeds.

If your in an area that doesnt provide it, then i feel bad for you.

Good luck

Where does a dial up modem go in a Dell optiplex 760?

The dial-up modem would install inside the computer in a PCI slot. VERY easy to install but a couple considerations before doing so... There are different sizes depending on whether the OptiPlex is a mini-tower or small form factor case. Also - you would need drivers for the modem that are compatible with the operating system you have installed on the computer.

Does a dell optiplex 260 have a phone modem?

Hi,
Yes it has a PCI slot where you can plug in a dial-up modem.
It also has an ethernet socket at the back where you could plug in a DSL modem for high speed internet.
Best wishes,

My new pc Dell Inspiron desktop has no modem built in for dial-up internet connection. Im currently subscribing to a dial-up service provider on another pc, how do I connect to the same dial-up service...

You have to configure Internet Connections Sharing on the PC which has a dial-up service.
1. Click Start - Settings - Control Panel - Network Connections, right click on dial-up.
2. Clik on Properties, click on Advanced tab.
3. Under Internet Connection Sharing, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box

After that you must connect the other pc to this one via network cable.
If you don'y have network adapters you have to buy them.

Cannot get internet on my dell 280 after formatting

This is the driver you should install right from the Dell downloads page for that model desktop.

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/downloads/en/downloads_splash?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~mode=popup&file=175637

After installing that it might figure out how to reach the internet on its own. If not you need to run the Network Setup Wizard. Good luck!

Can't connect to the internet

What sort of internet(dial-up, adsl,) modem, Operating system etc. How did you "clear everything off" ? Some bugs are designed to use your internet, so it is not uncommon that you need to make a new connection after virus removal.
