Question about HP LaserJet 4 plus Printer

Only first page prints out with HP LaserJet 4 plus

I have two similar HP laserJet 4 plus printers at school. Both are network printers with JetDirect. Now they both print only the first page of the file.
Is this some trick of schoolboys or driver problem.

What sort of file are you printing?

Do you get an error message?

Does this happen with all files or a particular file?

Have you printed a test page?

Have you tried to print from different PCs?

Are the drivers shared from a server on the network?

At this point I can only guess the SNMP might not be right.

The file might might be messed up.

I dont think this is a "Schoolboys trick"... as fun as hacking might be for kids, even experienced IT people seem to find network printers diffuclt.... funny things happen with networks sometimes.

I would say reinstall the driver, wouldnt be a schoolboys trick even sometimes the schoolboys know more than the teachers when it comes to technology.

Try the machines with a seporate machine thats a freash install and see it does the same thing, this a driver issue, and sometimes the students can hack into the machine and asking the printer to just print just one page of the document, you can select pages in a print box in word / Internet explorer for example.

And you can ask the printer to print two pages onto one page.

Slow printing hp laserjet 2320 mfp

I have just come up against this issue my self, 4 x CM2320's installed on 150 PC's. After a lot of head scratching I dug out wire shark and did some network analysing as I thought it was a network issue. Turns out it sort of was, the HP software installs a custom network print port, this print port scans the network to see if the printer has changed its IP address BEFORE it tries to spool...!! The solution is to create a new network port and put the printer on that. Originally it took well over 90 seconds to print a test page, once the port was changed it dropped to 2...!!!! All PC's at this client were win XP so here's how to do it on an XP machine... Please note the printer should be on a static IP address!!!:

Start > Printers And Faxes > Right Click on the CM2320 PCL 6 printer > Properties > Ports >

If you scroll down to find the printer in the ports list you should find it has installed on a port called 'HP Colour LaserJet' or something similar.

Add Port > Select 'HP Standard TCP/IP Port' > New Port > Next > Type in the printers IP address ie 192.168.0.202 (Don't tick always print to this device) > Next > Standard - Dropdown - Hewlett Packard Jetdirect > Next > Finish.

The new port will now be in the ports list, click the tick box next to it > Apply > OK. Now try and print a test page, it should only take a second or two...!!!

I have a hp laserjet 5 dislpalying "80 service 01E4" I do not wish to network this printer

Power the printer off and remove the JetDirect card. That is the card that the network cable plugs into.

Is it possible to install the Post Script drivers for a Laserjet 5000 printer? Also how can I use that printer within my network to print from other PC's

Yes, hp provides a Universal Postcript Driver.

1) Go to hp.com and click on Support & Drivers at the top of the home page. In Step 1, select Dowload Drivers & Software. In Step 2, Type into the window LJ5000 and click Go.

2) Select Laserjet 5000

3) Select your operating system, e.g. Windows XP, or Vista, etc.

4) Scroll down to the driver tables. Look for Universal Postscript Driver for Windows and click on Download.

5) Install the driver.

As for the network, I assume this is a Laserjet 5000, NOT a 5000N (which means it has an Embedded network card inside). If this is the case, you will need to add a JetDirect card into the printer. Then you will be able to install it to the network and print from other PCs.

On the other hand, if yours IS a network printer, you will merely need to install the printer to your network.

1) Plug you network cable into the printer.
2) Power the printer on.
3) After the printer comes to READY, wait for about 3 minutes.
4) Go to the printer's onboard menu and scroll to INFORMATION and select that menu.
5) Scroll down to "PRINT CONFIGURATION PAGE".
6) On the Config Page, look for the Embedded JetDirect page, and look in the left column for IP Address. It should be from your network.
7) Look next for Configured by: DHCP.

8) If you go to a PC that is on the same network, type the IP address for the config page into the web browser address window and press Enter key. You should see your printer "Laserjet 5000", and can from here do all knids of settings if you choose.

You will need to install the driver on each PC, or install the driver onto the network server as well.

HP Laserjet 4050. Can I connect from my TCP/IP to JetDirect?

To use a printer DIRECTLY into your PC or laptop (without plugging both into a network hib, or switch), you need to use a CROSSOVER patch cable.

My Hp JetDirect 1320n keeps printing (many) of the configuration page. It is a networked printer. We are a Mac system school.

That model has a common button stick due to the "control panel" plastic failure and this part assembly can be ordered here;

Need to install network printer to DLink Router

It has been a few months, so you probably have resolved this -- but just in case someone else is looking to find out the IP address on the internal print server of an HP Laserjet 4000n printer so they can set it up on their network, here are the steps to find the IP address on the HP JetDirect internal print server:

1. Have the Ethernet cable plugged in to the router and the JetDirect 600n card and power it on.
2. Make sure display screen on printer says "Ready".
3. Press the Menu button on the printer until you see Information Menu.
4, Press the Item button on the right (+) side until you see Print Configuration page.
5. Press the Select button and a configuration page should print.

One page is the printer's configuration and the other page is the print server configuration page. If you have a good JetDirect card, and good connection to your router, the IP address of the printer, plus its subnet mask and default gateway should be shown on the EIO configuration page.

If the printer has been manually set with a static IP address, subnet mask and default gateway that will not work on your network, you will see the settings will indicate "Configured by" User Specified.

To clear those settings and allow DHCP setting, perform a cold reset on the JetDirect card, by powering off the printer, holding down the green "Go" button and powering it back on until you see "COLD RESET," let go of the green Go button, wait a couple of minutes, then run another configuration page to see the freshly assigned DHCP address of the print server.

Hope this helps someone.

Hp laserjet 4200 printer- how to find the current ip address?

To have an IP address for the printer you must either have a HP4200n or install a Jetdirect card into the printer. The Jetdirect or "N" version of the printer with the built in Jetdirect holds the network IP address. Subnet Mask, Gateway Derfault and handles the networking functions. If you have a 4200n or Jetdirect installed it will print out on the configuration page.

The standard HP 4200 doesn't have the networking capability without adding the card. In the event that you have a card installed and its not recognizing the card on the configutation page it may be bad. The HP 615n cards are known to have burn out issues. If you have to install a card to upgrade your printer, I recommend a HP 620n or better to get around the known bad issues with the 615n cards.

Printer Stopped Printing

If you can get a test page this indicates that there is nothing wrong with your printer there should be a little button on the jetdirect box press that and that will give you the jetdirect settings and IP code. Check this with you computer system as your IP host license may of expired and change the jetdirect to suit.

If the network IP code is still the same the cheapest this is to fit a new jetdirect box if this still doesn't work then I'm affrayed that the machine formatter board has become faulty and would probberly out way the cost to repair it that buy a new machine.

I do hope this has helped you
Thanks J
