Question about Western Digital Elements powered by WD 320 GB External USB (WDE1U3200N) Hard Drive
Hello I've had a Western Digital Elements external hardrive [500 meg] for about 2 years now & I've just got myself a new laptop [with Vista] however I'm getting the error that the external drive is corrupted & unreadable. I've been told that if I could get access to it then I could do some for of 'disc-doctor' on it, but how can I do that if every time I try to get in there I get the same response..?
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.

Here is a tedious solution that works. Use MioNet and move all the files you want to keep to another drive or another computer, then delete everything from the MyBookWorld. Remove MioNet from all computers. Next access the drive's built in Shared Storage Manager with a web browser. Check the pdf manual on the install disk to find out how. Create a new shared folder and then move everything you want on the drive into the new folder WITHOUT using MioNet. Map the shared folder as a network drive for easy access. Never, ever, EVER use MioNet again and all should be good. The drive works, the MioNet software does not.

hey im the same person who just posted above. i went to WD's website, and it said unplug the hard drive from the computer, and unplug it from the power source. then plug it into the power outlet, wait for it to spin up, then plug it in via USB/Firewire, whatever. it worked for me, so hopefully it will work for you.

I had the same problem some have posted about. I had a lot of data on my drive and then one day it didn't show up in "My Computer" anymore. I had to assign a separate drive letter to the external drive.
Plug in the drive.
Right click on "My Computer"
Click on "Manage
Click on "Disk Management"
On the bottom half of the right side you should find "My Book" assigned to a disk number.
Right click on "My Book"
Click "Change Drive Letter and Paths"
Select a new drive letter and hit OK
Hope this helps some people out.
