Question about Raymarine E120 GPS Receiver

Open Question

I have a Raymarine E120 Multifunction Display slow loading chart.

When I boot it up it takes 20-40 minutes for the chart to display the graphics from the chip. I bought a new platinum navionics card, i've reinstalled the chip several times, and I even updated the software to 5.52. When it comes on it stays on, but when you're leaving at 4am for a canyon trip and the card graphics don't load... any help would be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: Connect an raymarine E120 Display to the RNS software in a PC

Try a cross over network cable from the PC to the E-Series. Raymarine Made each one of their cables as a straight cable so you would need to buy the cross over coupler or network switch box to use it with another unit. It's nothing different from normal networking with the exception that they have removed wires 4,5,7 & 8 from the cable and it's a straight. Give that a try.

SOURCE: My Raymarine C80 CHart plotter won't load.

Check to see if this is a power issue by connecting to shore power and fully charging your batteries overnight with instruments off. While still connected to shore power, with batteries fully charged, turn on C80 navigation system. If the loading screen comes on and does not reset, then try holding down the button immediately to the right of the red power button for at least 3 seconds to see if the system re-boots.

SOURCE: Chart details not appearing after removal.

Same problem I had. After resetting unit and checking CF on another unit, Raymarine tech. said, the reader is not working. All pins seems to be OK on first look. I opened unit by removing several screws in front, gasket and the whole chassis from the case. Simple repositioning of pushed down pins from inside into the Compact Flash corrected contact problem of reader. Since then, I never removed CF. It seemed, after several reinsertions of CF, I pushed down two pins in CF slot.

SOURCE: I just bought a boat with a Raymarine C80 chart

Hi,

Your problem is the 4GB card. The Raymarine C-Series have a problem with their compatability tool and larger CF cards. You should use a card no bigger than 256mb.

The card probably worked in the store because the newer models accept larger cards.

Get an older card from ebay etc and copy your 4gb files onto it and try again. Hope that helps you out.

How do I get my lake map chip to come on

With your card in your unit follow these steps it should accomplish letting you view your map data.
push MENU twice
Highlight CHART push ENTER
Highlight CHART DATA push ENTER
Highlight LOWRANCE push ENTER.
You will note there is an option for Lowrance and Navionics, if you select Navionics you will see a distinct difference in the way the base map displays on your unit.
Hope this helps.

HP notebook screen

If you've tried a working lcd screen and you still get no display then your video card is bad. The hp dv2000 has the Nvidia Graphics Card (video card) that was a manufacturing defect and was put in many different manufacturer's models other than hp. It was a total nightmare and well documented all over the internet.

Your graphics card will have to be reflowed. You can do it yourself by taking the motherboard out then wrapping it in Aluninum foil leaving the Nvidia graphics chip exposed. Take a hair dryer (blow dryer) and with a sweeping and circular motion for about 1 minute go all over and around the graphics card applying HOT heat. Take a pencil with an erser on it and use the eraser end to push in the middle and all around the edges of the video card to reseat is securely. Repeat this for another time or two then remove the aluminum foil and let the board cool off. Insert it back and most likely your problem will be solved. I've done it many times and I use a really hot Shrink Wrap gun. It works 99% of the time.

How do you get the gps to show depth and markers on the water?

It depends on what model you have. Most chartplotters require a chip with regional chart data. Most Lowrance models use Navionics charts. If you have a chip in the GPS, go to the map screen and press the "menu" key. Somewhere in the map setup menu will be a field where you can specify which chart to display.

For example a Navionics gold chart may cover the entire east coast, but it is broken down into a few sub regions. If you are boating in New England you would select the sub region labeled Northeast. Some of the earlier models didn't name the regions, they used model number for each region such as "XL904G". In that case your best bet is to try each one until you can view the charts in your area. Zoom in to 1/2 mile scale to make sure you can see charts.

If you have done all that and still can't see the chart details, there is also a setting in the map setup menu that allows you to set the level of detail. Make sure it is set to normal, more, or most. If you see a declutter setting on the setup menu, try setting it to off.
