The external power supply is ok, with 19,5 Vdc.
The connectors are good and checked it.
The first integrade, the power converter to 5,0V and 3,3V dc is ok and have two control pins to start the convertion are ok too.
The dual color led in input connector have two mosfet in control. When I put 3V in gate, these leds are on.
The problem is betwen these lillte mosfets and the electronic circuits near battery connectors. I dont find the electronic schemmatic for this motherboard.
Thanks again and sorry my english.

You have already diagnosed the;

A) AC adapter (Charger)?

1) You have taken a multimeter, set the Function knob to DC Voltage, and tested the AC adapter to see if it is putting out 18.5 Volts? (DC)

2) You had an assistant gently wiggle the power cord to the charger, AND the power cable from the charger to the laptop?

Diagnosed to see if there is an intermittent reading due to broken wires?

B) Checked out the DC Power Jack that the AC adapter plugs into?

{ It's a DC Power Harness. The jack has a cable with a connector on the end }

Jack is in good condition? Center Pin doesn't move, outer metal shell doesn't move?
DC Power jack solder connections are good, not cracked?

Then you are looking for the power sensor chipset. It is a power MOSFET,

This is one that is used in a LOT of laptops,

Service Manual,

The HP G42-210(?)BR Notebook PC is part of the HP G42 series of Notebook PC's.

In the list click on the file name -

Out of my league FraMauro. I also do not believe the circuit is available to the general public, but that is just MHO. If you do figure it out, and receive the schematic/s, post back. Regards, joecoolvette

Not charging, green light on cord is lit up but wont charge

In regards to your notebook not charging this could be one of 2 things if your AC Adapter is showing a green light. Ether your battery is bad or there is something wrong with the charging mechanism.

If you are still in warranty I would call Acer about getting a replacement battery and/or motherboard because the charging mechanism is part of the motherboard.

Note another test you can do if you know someone that has the same model of Acer you can try your battery in there system. If their system charges the battery then you know the problem is not with the battery.

Hope this helps

Hp pavillion dv8500 or 6500 completely dead

Hello there:
I would have to say that you are right about the motherboard or a coponent on the motherboard
Whenever you see a spark like this this is not good for motherboards or small electronics in general there are virtually hundreds of tiny capacitors and relays that are on the motherboard and it only takes a tiny spark or power surge to fry them. I would see if you have a warranty still with this laptop and use it.
you may want to check out the power cord and makes sure that it is still in good working order and also try taking out the battery and leaving it out.
Than find the reset button on the back of the machine and inserting a toothpick or small object into it and hold it in for 45 seconds and than while still holding in on it try to power up the unit ok?
I hope that this has been very helpful for you
best regards michael

Charging the battery over the winter

Hi there. Float charging the battery is a great idea over winter. You should always remove a battery from your bike or vehicle before charging. They produce hydrogen gas (EXPLOSIVE!!) and can easily ignite if a spark is generated (from the battery charge connection) . I have seen this happen before!! I would be using a constant voltage type regulated float charger to keep it topped up. Unless you can set up the constant current type you mention for a few milliamps of charge only. If you charge it at too high a rate, with constant current, it will overcharge the battery and boil it dry. Float charge voltage of 13.5-13.8 is good for any lead acid battery. Check it every few weeks initially to be sure that it is not loosing electrolyte. Thanks for using FixYa.

Battery not recharging

This is usually the case. A small chip inside the battery that keeps tabs on the state of health for the battery is what sends the signal not to accept a charge. Unfortunately that may be bad itself and the batteries near their end, one will fail before the other sometimes, but it does mean the cartridge, ergo the battery needs to be replaced.

It does pay to shop around and not run to HP for a battery, Ebay is a good place to start with this in mind, find a power seller with a high rating who has an agreable return policy and acceptable warranty period. Only then, purchase from them.

Otherwise, you can shop at highly regarded outlets on line such as

A Google/Froogle search will yield a return of results that can be ranked by sellers with four stars. Some of these even have Google Checkout. Just use the same common sense for a solid rep and ample return policy with a warranty that makes sense to you. It is your choice where to buy.

Please remember to rate this solution, it is appreciated. Thanks.
