The root folder is just the partition itself? If ayou download the file, put it in the partition & turn on, select upgrade etc it will do it for you.

I thought this would solve the problem of my files not showing up but it hasnt? You had any joy yet?

SOURCE: driver update

You may need to recode the video files on your main computer into a recognised format. This is mainly due to the CPU on the media processor being fairly slow.

This sounds as though the Iomega has got locked somehow.
Do a get info on its desktop icon and have a look at the lock checkbox. Also look at the write permissions while you are there.

SOURCE: Is my hard drive broken? Cant get it recognised on other PCs

I'm having a similar problem with the same Akasa integral enclosure, so far I have tried 3 different hard disks and not one of them will work properly and on two different computers.. , all of the hard disks I've tried are Samsung .. but I'm sure that makes no difference. I plan to send back the enclosure to where I bought it from and get a different one from a different manufacturer.

No, the drive was corrupted by the Mac on which it was plugged in. You have a slim chance of recovery - you must try something like
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/MiniTool-Partition-Recovery.shtml
or
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/DiskGetor-Data-Recovery-Free.shtml
or

And get rid of your "boyfriend" , he's a tool.

Hi

Did you copy all the files to root directory of the HDD? in some cases if the files are in the sub folder the DVD will not recognize it. Try copying it to the root directory and try.

Hi. My computer says I ejected my WD My Passport external drive but it was not properly ejected. How can I fix this. I need all my thesis files but computer can read the external drive! Help please!

Try to test your WD Ext HDD to a different computer and check if you will get the same problem.

If the same problem persist try to use a different cable for your WD Ext HDD.

If still fails kindly ask the store where you bought the WD Ext HDD on how to retrieve your files and have WD EXT HDD replaced?

If your WD Ext HDD works to a different computer then update the BIOS and Chipset of the computer where your WD Ext HDD connected previously.

Hope this helps.

I installed a second WD My Book, after the first one inexplicably filled up too quickly. Now the second one has inexplicably filled up also. What could be causing this?

The most logical reason for this problem to occur is because you're storing too many files in the ROOT of the external hard disk drive (HDD). The Windows file system can only manage a limited number of files (about 500) in the root of ANY drive. It is better to store those files in a FOLDER on the drive; Windows can manage an infinite number of files IF you store them inside a folder. Let's see if we can resolve this step-by-step:

1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the external HDD (drive E:, drive F:, drive G:,or whatever letter it has on your system).

2. If the external HDD does NOT have a name (such as "WDMyBook01", or something else easy to remember), RIGHT-CLICK the letter of the external HDD; Windows will give you the option of creating a NAME for the external HDD.

3. Create a name for the external HDD, you can use any combination of letters or numbers, but NOT MORE than 11 characters in length. By creating a distinct name for your external HDD, you'll have an easier time remembering which MyBook drive has certain files on it. Be sure to do this for BOTH external HDDs.

4. Next, create a new folder in the ROOT of the external HDD; give it a simple SHORT name, such as "Folder01" (no quotes).

5. MOVE ALL OF YOUR FILES from the ROOT of the external HDD into the new folder you just created.

6. In the future, put ALL your files into a folder on the external HDD, so you can avoid experiencing this problem again.

7. As you've probably already guessed, it is also a good idea to avoid putting more than 500 files into the root of ANY HDD. SOME files MUST be stored in the root, because that is where Windows expects to see them, but don't add any of YOUR files, the ones you create or download, into the root of the drive.

8. This numerical limit also applies to USB flash drives and other storage devices. You avoid this problem the same way, by creating folders in the root of the drive and storing all files inside a folder.

Good luck with this; let us know if you have any questions.
