I've got a belkin also , on the icon that says limited or no connectivity( two little computers?) left click once then when the window for local area network status comes up , click on properties , local area network properties window comes up ,scroll down to internet protocol tcp/ip , high light it by clicking left on it once, then click properties and make sure it is selected as optain ip address automaticaly, then click ok, then on the local area network properties make sure all the boxes are checked and install them , then restart your computer , the main computer , the modem and unplug the router untill the main computer has restarted, then turn on the modem and plug the router back in.
if that don't work you will have to assign the computer the address
see if that works, if not let me know

if you have to assign the address assign 192.168.2.4 because the main computer will have 192.168.2.2, and the other laptop you said that connected will have 192.168.2.3

  • jason Oct 22, 2008

in the belkin settings , if you want security click on security and type in a pass phrase and it will give you 4 keys 1 for each computer that connects to the router

You'll just need to enter the network key on the wireless configuration of your laptop. Try these steps.

* on the bottom right hand, right-click on the wireless network icon and click on View Available Wireless Network
* you should see there the name of the signal coming form your belkin router
* select your belkin signal then press connect. If it ask for a network key type in your wireless network key, normally its WEP or WPA key, then confirm it on the 2nd box then press connect. That should fix it.

* If you don't know your wireless network key, go to your desktop and open Internet Explorer.
* On the address bar type http://192.168.2.1
* It will prompt you for username and password. Type admin on username and there's no password.
* when you get to the router's setup page, go to Advance wireless and you can see there your wireless network key. Just punch it on your laptop. That should take care of it.

*If it still doesn't work, you can try to change the channel on the router.
*On the setup page of the router, go to Wireless tab and change the channel to 11, then Apply or Save the changes.
*You will then need to reboot the router for 10 seconds, then restart your laptop. That should fix it.

Hello,

Solutions to the problem are varied, however most of the solutions found on the web just mask the problem by simply guiding the user through turning off this notification. Now this solution may work great for systems that are showing a false positive error, but what if the system genuinely has lost its local area connection or the connection is unstable, what then?

1) Your Network or DSL router may have bad or missing information. Powercycle your router and/or rebuild the configuration in your router.

2) Double-check your cabling to the computer. Make sure you have the correct type of cabling, straight-through CAT 5 or possibly a crossover cable and try another cable or test the cable to make sure its working properly.

3) Check your network card to make sure its configured correctly and working properly. Many times setting the network card to 10Mbps/Full Duplex will solve this issue. To do this, open Control Panel, System, Device Manager. Go to the properties of the Network card, click on the Advanced tab and find the Link Speed and Duplex section. Change it from Auto Detect to 10Mbps/Full Duplex.

4) Check and test your firewall. Your firewall, especially if its a software firewall like ZoneAlarm, Black Ice, Norton Firewall or something else could be blocking the connection. Disable your firewall and test the connection. You may have to resolve the problem by even uninstalling and reinstalling the firewall.

5) Check your IP address assignments and workgroup settings in the computer for accuracy. Statically assign IPs to the computers in your network.

6) Reset your TCP/IP stack by downloading and running WinsockXPFix.exe a Visual Basic program designed to fix corrupted TCP/IP issues, host file problems and a variety of other connectivity issues.

7) Also this issue is relate to SP2 update (in that case you should run the Microsoft patch (KB884020) for it.)

Have a great day!
Pablo :-)

Check on the internet connection to your router from the modem first..that message means that you are connected to the router, but not to the internet..

you may need to restart the modem, by pulling the power and then re inserting that plug..what kind of modem and internet service do you have?

The Acer Aspire One is an inexpensive laptop computer that runs the Windows operating system. The computer does come with a built in Wi-Fi receiver, giving you the ability to connect to a wireless Internet network, when available.
However, if you are having trouble connecting to a wireless network, you must troubleshoot the network connection to determine exactly what is causing the problem with the Internet.
Check the wireless router and high-speed modem.
If the two are not powered on, or if the Ethernet cable connected the two is not completely inserted into both connection ports, you are unable to access the Internet on the Acer Aspire One laptop computer.
Activate the wireless Internet connection on the laptop computer.
Right-click the wireless icon on the desktop, then choose "Enable" from the pop-up menu.
Without activating the wireless receiver on the Acer Aspire One, the laptop is unable to detect any wireless network.

Select the appropriate network you wish to connect to.
Your computer may be attempting to connect to a different Internet connection, preventing you from access the network you desire.
Right-click the wireless icon, select "Search for available wireless networks," then choose the network you want to access.

Restart the computer.
The system may have booted and failed to detect the wireless receiver. Restarting the computer corrects this issue.

also
Turn on your computer and locate the Wi-Fi icon.
This could be located on the upper row on a laptop it will have the radiation look (((·)))
Make sure its pressed on.
The internet connection is located in the system tray in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
The icon looks like a series of rectangles that increase in size from left to right.
Right-click the Wi-Fi icon and select "Connect to a network."
You will see a list of available wireless networks.
Wireless Acer laptop can be a massive boon to your productivity when it is working properly and a massive headache when it is not.
When your laptop card begins to exhibit undesirable symptoms, such as signal dropping, you can avoid a hefty repair bill by performing at-home troubleshooting.
The best solution is to merely reinstall the software driver, which refers to the program that the operating system uses to speak the wireless card's language.

Open your operating manual and look up the model name and number for your laptop.
Navigate to the Acer Support web page (see Below) and click on the "Downloads" link.
http://support.acer.com/
Input the model number of your laptop, click on the "Search" button, download the wireless driver file for your laptop model and save the file to your desktop.
Open the "Start" menu, click on "Control Panel" and open "Device Manager."
Open the "Network Adapters" menu, double-click on your wireless card, select the "Drivers" tab, click on the "Update Drivers" button and choose the desktop as the location to search for new drivers.
Click "Next" to reinstall the driver, fixing your wireless woes.

My think pad t42 cannot find any wireless networks

If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wirelessconnection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptopprobably did not get an IP address from the wireless router.
To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and thenclick Repair.
This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless cardon the laptop.

Wireless connection will not turn on has x ove signal strength tried using window flag plus x shows icons all work except wireless con wont turn on

    Hello

I am going to assume that you never had wireless connection with your 3680. With that in mind, Go into Control Panel to make sure your wireless connection can "see" other network routers. Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections>Network Connection. When you start the search for networks, this should turn your wireless adaptor on to perform the search. If you get a message that you do not have a wireless adaptor, use the Wireless Network Setup Wizard.

    Good Luck

How do i have a usb port run a high speed device

The USB port in your computer is not the new high-speed USB 2.0 version, and when you plug a USB 2.0 device in you will get that message. Most USB devices will still work but not give best performance. Just close the message window.

The network cable unplugged message can be disabled through the network settings. Normally Windows is set to display that message when there is no network cable connected. You can just ignore the message.
