Problem with HO Photosmart C7100 All-in-one printer When loading paper in the normal way the "Out of paper. Load paper face down in Main Tray" is shown on every attempt despite the fact the paper is already there. There is no paper jam and we have tried everything!

Dear,

Please perform the steps below in order to solve this incidence:
Reset your All in One product:
Remove the power supply for ten seconds and then, reinsert the power cord and turn on the printer again.
Print a basic self test page.
Clean the paper path:
Take a look inside the printer to determine the side on which the carriage is located (left or right).
If situated on the right, make sure there is no obstruction and then, move the carriage all the way to the left side.
If situated on the left, make sure there is no obstruction and then, move carriage all the way to the right side.
If located in the middle, ensure there are no obstructions. Then, move the carriage first all the way in one direction and then all the way to the opposite direction. Please do not apply too much pressure.
Remove the rear access door from the back of your unit. Check for and remove any paper still in the printer.
Replace the rear access door and close your unit top cover.
Re-connect the power cable only. If the unit does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
If the Power light is on and steady, print a self test page.
Plug your All in One product directly into another power outlet:
Remove the unit power cable from any power strip or surge protectors and plug it directly into a grounded wall outlet
Try printing again.
regards,

dont rate it until it helps or fix

Hi richlindy,

It's possible that the paper jam is hidden from view. So you might think there is no paper jam, but there might be bits of paper inside the printer. I would recommend that you do this for your printer:

  1. Press the On button, and then unplug the power cord.
Press in the tab on the rear door to release the door. Remove the door by pulling it away from the unit.
CAUTION: Trying to clear a paper jam from the front of the unit can damage the print mechanism. Always access and clear paper jams through the rear door.
  2. Gently pull the paper out of the rollers.
CAUTION: If the paper tears when you are removing it from the rollers, check the rollers and wheels for torn pieces of paper that might be remaining inside the unit. If you do not remove all of the pieces of paper from the unit, more paper jams are likely to occur.
  3. Replace the rear door. Gently push the door forward until it snaps into place.
Plug the power cord in, and then press the On button to turn the unit on.
Press OK to continue the current print job.
NOTE: In some circumstances the print job will not continue but cancel. If this happens you will need to reprint the document starting with the page number when the jam occurred.
More information can be found at this link, and with a video on how to do this procedure on your printer:

Hope this helps!
Peace! :)

I the steps don't work then I would suggest that you try resetting the whole unit. You can try doing this and see if it works for this printer.

    1. Turn on the printer

    2. After tuning on the printer, disconnect the power cord from the back of the unit.

    3. Now press and hold the # and 3 buttons simultaneously on the printer.

    4. Then while still holding down the # and 3 buttons, connect the power cord to the back of the unit.

    5. Now continue holding the buttons until the Power button blinks.

    6. Then follow the instructions that display on the printer and set it up again.

Try this out and see if this one works. Hope this helps!

    Peace! :)

Any of the following issues can cause the error message to appear:

  • The paper trays are empty or overloaded.
  • The paper is curled.
  • The print side, or shiny side, of the paper is not loaded in the input tray face down.
  • The paper might not be engaged with the feed rollers.
  • The paper-width guide is pressed against the paper stack too tightly.
  • The paper tray is not completely inserted into the product.
  • The paper settings in the print driver do not match the paper loaded in the paper tray.
  • The rubber paper-feed rollers are coated with dust.

Paper size is may be incorrect (your software needs Letter not A4). Try to change format in a program that you are trying to print from.

Hmm..ok..so, no matter how much paper is in the tray, the indicator says load more paper..can you look under the tray to see if there are any fragments of paper?

then, turn the printer all the way off, let it set for a minute or two, and try it again..

there are more options, just try these two first..

Printer won't pick up paper to print or copy. paper is loaded put registers as 'out of paper, load paper face down in main tray'. this has all been done. What's wrong

If it's in the 1st paper tray, pull out the tray and check if theres a sensor. Check if it's out of position, if it is, place it back in position. If the printer still says 'load paper' the sensor is most likely faulty.

Paper is inserted properly but error message keeps saying "Load paper face down in Main tray"

i think the printer has 2 trays, one down and the other one on top from where you insert the paper. load the paper there as well. if there is only one tray then check the paper sensor in the bottom, if the paper end sensor comes out of position then it will not detect the paper.

Loading your paper
Paper loading tips:
● Load paper with the side to be printed facing down.
● You can print photos and documents on a wide variety of paper sizes, from
8 x 13 cm (3 x 5 inch) up to 22 x 61 cm (8.5 x 24 inch). The 10 x 15 cm
(4 x 6 inch) photo paper is available with and without tabs.
● Before loading paper, pull the Main paper tray out (use the Main tray release or
the tray grips) and slide out the paper-width and paper-length guides to make
room for the paper. After loading paper, adjust the guides to fit close to the edges
of the paper without bending the paper. When finished loading paper, push the
Main tray back in all the way.
● Load only one type and size of paper at a time in the same tray.
● After loading paper, extend the Output tray extension to catch your printed pages.

How do I put the envelope into the printer?

Hello,

From the manual:

To load envelopes
1. Pull out the main input tray to load envelopes.
2. Remove all paper from the main input tray.
3. Insert one or more envelopes into the far-right side of the main input tray, with the envelope flaps on the left and facing up. Slide the stack of envelopes forward until it stops.

How to load paper

Your model has two trays on the front. The bottom one of these two is where you load the blank paper.
1. Raise the output tray to load paper into the main input tray.
2. Slide the paper-width guide to its outermost position.
3. Tap a stack of paper on a flat surface to align the edges, and then check the paper for the following:
• Make sure it is free of rips, dust, wrinkles, and curled or bent edges.
• Make sure all the paper in the stack is the same size and type.
4. Insert the stack of paper into the main input tray with the short edge forward and the side to be printed down. Slide the stack of paper forward until it stops.
5. Slide the paper-width guide inward until it stops at the edge of the paper.
Do not overload the main input tray; make sure the stack of paper fits within the main input tray and is no higher than the top of the paper-width guide.
6. Lower the output tray.
7. Pull the output tray extender towards you, as far as it will go.

I hope this helps!

I have installed the HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One and tried to print an article off the computer. I have paper loaded in the tray-I get a message Out of Paper. Load paper face down in Main Tray. What's...

I experienced the same problem on a HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-one printer. The problem was that the light-blue plastic piece, which covers half of the printing paper tray, had gotten out of alignment with the gray piece which covers the other half of the paper stack. Pull the blue plastic tray out and align it properly.
