I have just replaced the cartridges in my printer MP150. Now I cannot print. I have investigated the properties via Control Panel under maintenance but it tells me it cannot read the ink levels despite the fact that I have just installed two new cartridges. Can you help?

You can use Sainsbury Bathroom cleaner which is very good.

Process to clean your printer which is the main reason for wastage of ink :

  • Turn on printer - head moves across
  • Pull power cord so the head is left 'unparked'
  • Spray cleaner onto the parking pads
  • Carefully soak up spray with kitchen roll
  • Repeat if there was a lot of dried up ink on the pads
  • Spray again - leave the pad soaked with the cleaner
  • Turn printer on, let head return.
  • Switch printer off with it's own power button
  • Wait overnight :-)
You can get cartridges full of cleaning solution but I prefer to get an old empty cartridge and add a few cc of isopropanol to it through the vent tube (this is a fiddly operation and needs a syringe). This cartridge now has very dilute ink/solvent in it. Run some test prints and see if the clogs go away. The very dilute ink and solvent is much easier to see on paper than pure cleaning fluid.

New ink cartridge load test run prints lines on paper then tells me to take tape off cartridge which i've already done ???????

1. I would shut the printer down and pull the cartridge back out.
2. Find a Number 2 pencil with a good eraser on it.
3. Pull the Ink Cartridge back out, and use the pencil eraser to clean off all of the copper contacts that are behind the cartridge.
4. Replace the cartridge, and run a head clean process.
5. Align the heads and test the printing.

That should fix your issue.

I just replaced the blank ink cartridge and now nothing prints. What have I forgotten?

Remove the ink and check to make sure that you removed the sticky tape tab from the bottom of each cartridge. If you have then check the carriage where the ink sits for any dry or caked on ink. You can wash this away with alcohol and a cotton swab. Finally check the number on the old ink and make sure that it matches the number on the new ink. Just because the ink fits in the printer does not mean it will work.

Hello Doug,

Go to this web page: Canon MP460 Support

If the Support & Service tab is not selected click on it. Type replace ink in the Search box and click Search. The second result should be "How do I replace ink cartridges?" and the third result should be "How do I install ink cartridges?" Click on either one for an animated tutorial for replacement. There are no other parts.

Thanks for using Fixya.

First, the cartridges. This printer uses a 21 for Black and a 22 Tri-Color. The 58 is a Photo cartridge that replaces the 22, not the 21. Make sure that the cartridges are properly placed in the printer. The next step is the easier one. Might sound like some work, but it is the best way to correct conflicts with HP branded printers. First, uninstall the printer from the PC completely. Use the uninstall function. When that is done, re-install the printer onto the PC and test it. This should solve your problems, as long as there is not physical issues with the printer itself.

The black ink cannot be

Are you confident the new cartridge is full and in-date? Can you confirm that the old cartridge was not removed until immediately before the new cartridge was installed? Did you remove the yellow tape from the new cartridge before you installed it? Was the black cartridge change properly completed such that an ink charging cycle occurred? Have you carried out any head cleaning cycles? If not, do it. Have you done a nozzle check print? If not, do it. Any sign of black ink? Yes, but not perfect? If not, do a couple more head cleans and nozzle checks. If still not perfect, let it rest for 24 hours to disperse air bubbles. Then repeat.

If you have already done lots of head cleans with no result, and you're sure you have a good ink cartridge properly installed, then there are other things we can try - assuming other solutions haven't worked either. Report back on my queries etc.

Need to change the ink cartridge on lexmark model #x2350

1- Turn the printer on by pressing the power button. Usually, the power button is located on top of the Lexmark printer. If the Lexmark printer does not power on immediately, then hold the button down for a few seconds before releasing it. Once the Lexmark printer has powered on, the installed cartridges will begin to move back and forth for a few minutes.
2- Raise the Lexmark printer cover up towards you. Doing this will give you instant access to the inside components of the Lexmark printer. Lift the cartridge release lever and remove any installed ink cartridges. Be careful when doing this because the ink may leak out. It's best to have a disposable bag or paper towel near you when performing these steps 3- Remove the plastic from the brand new cartridges by carefully cutting them open with scissors or tearing along the perforated edges. Once you have removed the plastic, there's a yellow tag located near the bottom of the ink cartridge. Take this tag off only when you're ready to insert the ink cartridges into the slots.
4- Tear the yellow tag from the ink cartridges and place them into their corresponding slots. Each one will be easily identified by its color. The cartridge release lever will have the same color as the ink cartridge. If you mistakenly place the cartridges in the wrong slot, then you'll risk having your Lexmark printer stop working properly.
5- Press the ink cartridges into the slots and listen for a clicking noise after the insertion. Although you will need to firmly place the ink cartridges into the available slots, it still needs to be done gently. Close the Lexmark printer cover when you’ve completed the previous steps. Wait a few minutes for the Lexmark printer to recognize that you have inserted brand new ink cartridges. After a few seconds, it will go through some diagnostic steps to make sure the ink cartridges were correctly inserted.
6- Print a test page on your Lexmark printer. This will help you to determine if the ink cartridges are properly working. You can view the newly printed images and text after the Lexmark printer has finished printing. Get rid of your used ink cartridges by throwing them away or sending them to an online store that accepts empty ink cartridges.
