If I am not mistaken there is a srping steel plate in front of the table and if this is worn or bent it will not lock. Also look at the end of the handle to ensure that is fully engaging the stop.

There should be two knobs on the saw where you adjust the miter of the saw. One of these knobs if turned clockwise tightens the swivel. I have the same saw except it is a 13 amp.

When changing brushes on the LS 1013, should I be cleaning the motor with solvent or something similiar? It was showing a lot of arcing in the motor visible from the end of the motor.

No , solvent could remove the insulation. lightly dress the armature only where the brushes contact the copper contacts with 600 grit sand paper. It should be shiny. By the book you should only use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts so if you use sand paper be very careful or you could cause irreparable damage. Then be sure to wipe the filings away with a soft cloth, a little rubbing alcohol is helpful.

I have a Makita LS 1013 compound miter saw. The locking knob that locks the saw from sliding back and forth no longer works. I downloaded the owners manual and parts list but I can't seem to correctly...

check position 79 the spring that pushes against the table and also the end of the locking knob to make sure not rounded over/worn not applying pressure to the locking spring.

I need to know what a dropsaw is - why use one - what purpose does it have etc is there a website on using one many thanks! your assistance greatly apreciated

I assume you mean a compound miter saw. The best purpose is for finish carpentry where you need exact angles and very straight cuts. They also come in handy when you are cutting multiple items the exact same length, because you can set up a template or mark a certain length and use it over and over again.

Makita chopsaw when cutting angles blade is cutting table

You can adjust the location where the blade drops into the groove in the table. Look on page 24 of this manual and you will see exactly how to adjust the table:

I have a Makita LS 1013 Miter Saw , s/n 219590A. Can you tell me the year it was made? I bought it on E-bay, and it arrived in poor shape. I intend to file a claim to recover my losses. The seller posted...

Look after the serial number and you will find a couple more numbers that is the date of manufacture. Usually the first 2 numbers are the year and that is what you need.
