I bought my camera new 2 months ago and it has been working well. However the last couple of days I've not been able to get an image on the monitor screen. I can see the menu options and change them, and I can view pictures from the memory card, but I cannot get an image to take a picture. When I try taking a picture anyway it comes out blank.
no image on the monitor.menu option is ok.booting is ok.

I'm have the exact same problem. Purchased the camera 3.5 years ago. Recently needed to shoot a video, when finished I set the camera back to Auto and it stayed in video. Portrait mode shows manual, all other modes work as assigned. I've noticed at least TWO other posters having the same problem within the last couple of months. It's as though this camera (mfg. 2007) has a Trojan program from the factory to make us buy newer models.
Other than resetting, is there a way to flush and reload the firmware?
Try this Turn off the monitor then unplug all the cables , press and hold down the power button for 15 sec , see whether there is any magnetic device near by the monitor , eg Anything which is made of Iron, or any metal, keep them away from the monitor , if this is not fixing the issue , i Guess the monitor need to be serviced !
I quote: "A couple of days ago after using it when trying to see the pictures on
the camera the LCD did not show anything. The lens reacted and even
take pictures but nothing was visible on the LCD screen."
That means that there was a problem either with a LCD display or with ribbon cable.
Now:"I tried charging the battery and removing it from the camera, now the
camera only does a bit sound when switching on but nothing else, the
lens does not even come out."
That means that the ribbon cable had probably shorted, now the camera may be furtherly damaged.
The camera must be disassembled to access the LCD and fix the problem. The repair must be done by an experienced technician, as to access the LCD you need to remove both covers.
If you know how to open it up and get to the power supply you will find three capacitors 2-820uf and 1-330 @ 25vdc 105o.they will have puffed up tops replace them. FYI the monitor has a 3 year warranty.
Not worth replacing screen, due to labor cost so if camera works, it can still be used for snapping up shots if set on automatic and can be connected to monitor source e.g. gps monitor, portable TV,etc to view pics or change settings. Can try selling cheaply online and use money for new camera.
Same with mine a couple days ago. I've been told the contacts have oxidized and need to be cleaned. It was going to cost about $80 to fix and no guarantee how long it would last so I just bought a new monitor.
My viewing screen is black. I had successfully taken a picture, viewed it, and turned the camera off. When I turned it back on about 30 seconds later, the viewing sceen was black. I can 'take' a picure, but it comes out black. Help!
