Hello Pablocsa. Thank you for the quick reply. I went back into the [standard Cmos Feartures]. The setup is like this. IDE Channel 0 master St 3160812A. IDE Channel 0 slave DVD RAM. I discoonnected the DVD Ram on the slave to see if there was a conflict still would not start. I changed the hard drive pin select to cable select still no start. [The intergrated peripherals] serup is like this. on chip primary PCI/IDE [enabled]. Sata Raid/ACHI mode [Raid] H/W Sata Function {Raid] I went back into the raid configuration Utility and there is nothing to setup as it is asking for the raid set. Raid 0 Raid 1 RAID IO. I want to know why it will not load and work the Sata DVd burner. Many Thanks. Terry.

This is happening because the DVD SATA is booting like a first drive instead of the IDE Drive.
Be sure that your SATA drive is connected to a right port on your motherboard.
Go to your bios and into the boot options be sure that the IDE drive boot first than the SATA DVD.
******************************
Another way is connecting an adaptor SATA to IDE and connect your SATA DVD Drive as second IDE on your motherboard.

This will be fixing your problem.

Have a great day
Pablo :-)

LG dvd external drive not recognized by computer

ERROR 43? Check your SATA connection.
HERE'S HOW I FIXED MINE.
(IE. Computer tries to install driver for BD burner, but ultimately fails, and gives the message. "Unsuccessful" and/or "Microsoft Windows stopped device. Error 43") The SATA CONNECTION on my BD burner's EXTERNAL CASE had gone bad.
TO TEST IT. I used a SATA/IDE to USB Adapter Cable I bought for about $10 on amazon.
  • I unscrewed the external case to get at the internal drive, and plugged the SATA adapter cable directly into the internal BD burner drive (bypassing the case assembly), and plugged the other end into my computer USB port.
    • PS My BD burner POWER was working OK, so I left the big white 4pin power adapter connected to the original external case.

VOILA! Both my laptop and my desktop PC recognized the LG BD burner again and assigned it a drive letter (like it used to do).

  • Now I either need to (1) Buy a NEW EXTERNAL case ($10 - $30), (2) install it as an internal drive (could get problematic if "ANYDVD" is installed) or (3) just leave it connected via the cheap adapter cable.
It's super EASY (& inexpensive) to TEST this before spending $$$$ on a new equipment.
Hope this helps someone. It had me miffed for a while there.

D945gtp how to connect cd-rom hardware

1) IDE {PATA} DVD burner drive:

For an IDE { PATA } DVD burner, connect to the 40-pin IDE header on the motherboard. This is located to the right side of the Ram Memory slots.
It is the longer header that has 40 contact pins. {39 actually}

( The shorter connector on the motherboard is for a Floppy Drive.
{34 pins} It is above the IDE 40-pin connector )

NOTE*
The IDE connector on the motherboard should be keyed. Should have a cutout on one side. This is so the Number 1 pin in the flat IDE ribbon cable, will line up with Number 1 pin in the motherboard connector.

Some flat IDE ribbon cables, do not have a Locating Lug on the connector. (Small rectangular 'bump')

Number 1 pin on the IDE ribbon cable will be on the side that has a faint RED stripe on it.

Number 1 pin in the motherboard connector is at the Bottom, with the motherboard installed.

The side of the flat ribbon IDE cable that has the faint red stripe on it, goes DOWN, when installed in the motherboard connector.

If the DVD drive does not have a cutout for it's circuit board, the faint red stripe of the flat ribbon IDE cable, goes towards the power cable connection.

2) SATA DVD burner drive:
You have 4 Serial ATA headers (Connectors) on the motherboard.
Your SATA harddrive should be plugged into the SATA1 header.

You can choose any open available SATA header, to plug your SATA DVD burner drive into.
BIOS will see it once you turn the computer on.

3) If you somehow have been using an IDE {PATA} harddrive, and have it connected to your IDE connector on the motherboard, you SHOULD not use a DVD drive on that flat IDE ribbon cable, also.

BIOS has to find which device has the Operating System on it, (Windows), and then hand the computer over to the Operating System.

To state again, BIOS will look at both devices connected to that flat ribbon cable. The Harddrive, and the DVD drive.
It will then determine that the Harddrive, is the device that has Windows on it, not the DVD drive.

This slows the computer down, and could result in a blue screen.

If you have an IDE harddrive plugged into the motherboard, it would be best to use a SATA DVD drive.

Will an IDE DVD Burner work on my Acer Aspire E380 desktop. The hard drive is a SATA but the burner looks like an IDE and has belt cables. I need to replace my DVD burner and not sure what type of burner...

Yes, all you need is a IDE (Pata) to IDE (Sata) converter.

If you're replacing it, just make sure you get one with the correct interface, judging by what you sat SATA.

Will a SATA DVD Burner work in my Acer aspire 380 Desktop?

Hi

Thank you for your query

The answer is yes and no

No in the sense that you only have one IDE controller which is currently feeding your CD/DVD drive and the other is 1 SATA controller that is going to your hard drive HOWEVER yes in the sense if you purchase a sata splitter for the drive and a sata splitter for the power you could power both the SATA burner and Hard drive off the main cable.

This is not recommended and you do so at your own risk

I hope this has been useful

I want to install a 2nd dvd burner. But I don't know how to hook it up. My new pc does not have the ribbons like my old one does.

If your 2nd DVD burner is on IDE interface, you may need to get an IDE to SATA cable. Please refer to the picture below as to how it looks like:

Gear Head Lightscribe 24x DVD+/-R Triple Format SATA

Your original CDROM drive is likely an IDE interface (large rectangular connector), where as the new one is a SATA interface (small narrow connector). If your original is an IDE, the simplest solution is to return the SATA and purchase an IDE DVD.
