Question about Hunter 52" Ceiling Fan With Light And Remote Control

1 Answer

Installing a universal remote on a ceiling fan.

I am trying to install a Hunter universal fan and light remote onto a ceiling fan with no external controls. The fan is already installed and working and the fan and light are both on one switch, only on and off. The house wires are only black, white and green. I know that black is hot, white is neutral, and green is ground. the fan has the black, the white, and the green but also has a blue, which I currently have connected with the black. Now the receiver for the remote has the balck and white to go to the house wiring (as it works likes a splice between house and fan) and black, white, and red... how do i put this together

Your remote modual should have two or three wires coming from the unit on one side to go to the fixture and three on the other to hook it to power , the three should be to connect to the black (power), the white (Neutral) and green (ground), now the unit has power. The two or three coming from the other side should be a white and two other colors or two the same , black, red, or blue, The white connects to the fan white and the other two go to, one the fan and two the light. Lights come on at random .has a remote how to fix ?

The fan remote control receiver used in the Hunter 25730 model fan (see picture) is not available from Hunter. Remove the fan from the ceiling. Remove the receiver and take it to recycling. It can be replaced using a readily available and inexpensive replacement universal remote and receiver controller. There are limitations though. The Hunter receiver provided fan reversing functions. The universal controllers do not. You therefore have two options.

Option 1: The universal receiver can be installed such that the fan direction is fixed, either up or down, all other functions operate normally.

Option 2: A reversing switch can be purchased from Radio Shack for about $4 and installed in the fan. This does require cutting a square hole and drilling two bolt or rivet holes in the side of the cylindrical housing which previously housed the Hunter receiver. I'd suggest the Radio Shack DPDT slide switch part number 275-403.

Refer to the wiring diagrams and connector pinout diagram for connections. Please note that the connector pinout diagram is the connector that is soldered to the circuit board as shown in the photo of the Hunter receiver. If your motor wire colors are different then with the connector unplugged from the receiver use a multimeter to probe all the motor wires in order to identify two pairs of wires that indicate approximately 70 ohms each pair. These will be the motor windings. 6b0a1409-5a20-4efe-a059-c600652e9512.jpg 5da8e4ef-1b54-40d0-a8a4-21d4608b1d23.jpg 9fc8772d-3ac3-41b7-aa55-78ccc6e5ea00.jpg 0759e340-6464-4c4b-90f5-6d9926e74e42.jpg

Newly installed Hunter remote will work light and fan if only 2 of the 3 bulbs are installed.

Did you install the correct wattage? If you put in 2-60 watt try 3-40 watt instead .

Hunter ceiling fan. Lights and fans turn on and off by themselves. Both fans are on the same wall switch and are operated by separate remotes.

I just installed a 2nd hunter fan model 23811 that also seems to be controlled by grimlins. If the power is left on, the light and fan randomly turn on and off. And no, it is not due to fans being on the same frequency. It appears to be an issue with the control module. I'm contacting Hunter.

Hunter fan/light with remote installed turns on by itself

Many times this is caused by stray frequencies in the neighborhood. And, sometimes changing the frequencies on the remote and receiver reduce the occurrence.

But it sounds like this may not be the case, here. If not, the receiver in the fan is the culprit and should be replaced. No danger, just annoying.
