Question about Lite On SOHW-1653S (SOHW1653S09C) DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner
My drive is detected without errors by windows and says here its fully functioning. No drivers are damaged, no system files missing. But somehow everytime i pop a cd or dvd in it detects it as a blank disc and allow burning on it. Obviously i cant burn any CD either. Any disc no matter empty or written, audio or data, in short, all cd or dvd's cant be read or written. Disabling and re-enabling the drive doesn't work, cant roll back the driver whatsoever. Could it be a dirty lens? Or a system error? Please help me, im desperate.
Try searching the internet for that model. and look for a firmware upgrade. Download it and intall carefully folling the instructions that came with the download. If this does not work start looking for your reciept.

Verify you have the latest drivers installed for the CD-R or recordable drive. There are numerous driver related issues that may cause a CD-R drive or other recordable to stop reading a CD-R disc. If you are running Microsoft Windows verify your drive is properly detected and listed in Device Manage with no conflicts or errors.
If Windows Device Manager detects an error on the drive or if it has other drives listed in Device Manager with errors on them remove the device from Device Manager and reboot the computer to let Windows re-initialize the drive.
If Windows shows no errors, the above steps did not resolve the issue, or you are running a different operating system check with the drive manufacturer for updated drivers.

Close all open programs
Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps
