In a workgroup environment, you can set a particular user to have no password by going to "User Accounts" and set the password to blank or simply press enter.

"It is always advisable to have a password set". :)

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

My son has a laptop and i forgot my parental control password and i need to rester it..can you help?

Windows XP/Reset Parental Control
If you mean the Content Advisor that MS built into IE, do this:-
Click on START - RUN and type in REGEDIT, click OK
then the Registry Editor Opens,
Search on the left pane for the following key:-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current_Version\Policies\Ratings

Delete an Entry named "Key" there and your parental Control is disabled..

Restart the computer and run Internet Explorer again.
Choose View and then Internet Options,
Click on the Content tab and click on Disable. When asked for a password, don't enter anything; just click on OK. This will disable Content Advisor because there's no longer a password.

How to use password instead of fingerprint to logon

How to disable fingerprint reader
In Windows, in the settings section of the Fingerprint Control Center, uncheck Replace windows logon with fingerprint protected logon. In the Fingerprint section uncheck the Power-On Security section if the user has fingerprints enrolled there. You do not need to uninstall the software unless you wish to.

Password restore for window home xp

You do need a little tool called NT Passwords which has to be burned to a CD after unzipping it. You can use tools like Nero Burning Rom to burn the ISO file. The tool works with Windows 2000 and XP only, no Vista support yet. Boot your system from CD and you should see a prompt that asks for user input. The first step would be to select the partition of your Windows installation. After that the program asks for the path to the Windows registry, this depends on your version. For xp it would be “windows/system32/config”, for Windows 2000 “winnt/system32/config”.
Just press enter in the next dialog which will lead to the password reset options. Press enter again because choice [1] “Edit User Data and Passwords” is what we want.
Enter the username that you want to change the password from, remember it is case sensitive. You will be prompted to enter a new password. If you want you can change the passwords for other accounts as well or leave the program by hitting “!”, then “q” to quit and Y to accept the changes.

File sharing between windows 2000 and XP

1) I believe that Windows XP is not setup for that by default,
you may need to install the old BETBUI service.

2) Also, if the 2000 machine has a login password installed,
it will NOT allow any other machine to browse it, without
logging in.

3) Password-less file sharing over NETBUI was available
on the consumer side of windows:

Windows 3.11 for Work groups
Windows 95, 98 and Millenium.

The professional versions of windows, built on NT
technology require a login:

Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP,
and now Vista.

4) The best work around is to login to the 2000 machine when
it prompts you for a password, using your regular USER ID
and PASSWORD.

If the 2000 machine is not setup with a secure login,
just create a new account, ranking power user or higher.

5) Note that you only need to login over the network ONCE,
because windows XP can REMEMBER your password,
and login automatically the next time.

6) Make sure that the firewall (or A firewall) is not
blocking access to either machine, just disable the
firewalls for testing.

Similarly, if your LAN is behind a residential router, using
the router as a smart hub or switch, make sure that
the routers MAC address access blocking is disabled,
until you get everything setup and tested.

7) Finally if a PC is not visible in a work group, this does not
mean that it is not accessible. This is a Windows quirk.

You can try to access another computer by using the
default/administrative shares. These shares cannot be
disabled in XP, at least they will not stay disabled, as
they will restart during every reboot, whether you like it
or not.

This means that you can ALWAYS access all the drives
on another machine, whether you share them or not, unless
you take extreme measures in the local policies.

To access drive "E:" on a computer called "Henry" on a
machine in the same work-group,

open up windows explorer, and tyr the following into the
address line:

\\Henry\E$

This should access drive E:, after some delay, and possibly
a login prompt, even though drive is is NOT marked as
shared.

Down you just love windows ?!
Security by obscurity ?!
Microsoft is getting very good at hanging massive steel doors
on paper walls.

Hope this solves your problem, or gets around it.
