Logged on and my email icon was missing as well as other icons. tried to start outlook and the message is simply cannot start outlook. cannot make google my home page as dell4me contiues to override any...


This issue may occur if you deploy Outlook 2003 with the Microsoft Office 2003 Custom Installation Wizard and specify a personal folder (.pst) file in the Windows Installer transform (MST file) by using the Default location for PST files path option. The problem occurs because you specify a file name instead of a folder path.

To resolve this issue for future installations of Office, use the Custom Installation Wizard to edit the MST file. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Change Office User Settings page (page 10 of 24), expand Microsoft Outlook 2003, expand Miscellaneous, and then click PST Settings.
  2. In the right pane, double-click Default location for PST files, and then type the path that you want in the Default location for PST files box. For example, type %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\.
  3. Click OK, and then follow the steps to complete the wizard. When you have corrected the MST file, deploy Office by using the correct MST file.
To resolve this issue for an existing installation of Outlook that is experiencing this problem, specify the .pst file by using the Mail icon in Control Panel.

When you set compatibility for Outlook to Windows 95 or to Windows 98/Windows Millennium Edition, Outlook displays this error message. This is because the location of the Outlook Profile information in the registry differs on a Windows XP-based computer.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Locate Outlook.exe.

    Outlook.exe is typically located in one of the following folders, depending on the version of Outlook that you are running:
    • Microsoft Office Outlook 2010 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
    • Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
    • Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 11
    • Microsoft Outlook 2002 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10
    • Microsoft Outlook 2000 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 9
  2. Right-click Outlook.exe, and then click Properties.
  3. On the Compatibility tab, click to clear the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box.

If you attempt to send a message that is too large for your mail server you may be unable to delete it from the Outbox.

First, try setting Outlook offline using the File, Offline menu. Wait about a minute or so or close Outlook and reopen.
If you are unable to delete the message while in offline mode or cannot go into offline mode, you'll need to change your default delivery location.

  1. Add a new PST using the File, New, Outlook Data File menu.
  2. Open the Email Accounts dialog on the Tools menu.
  3. Select view or Change existing email accounts and click Next.
  4. Select the new personal folders file from the Deliver new email to the following location list.
  5. Click Finish and restart Outlook.
  6. Show the folder list, using Ctrl+6 if necessary, and find the old Outbox. Delete the message.
  7. Repeat steps 2, 3, 4, and 5 to restore the original pst as the default delivery location.
  8. Show the folder list and move any new messages from the new pst to the original pst.
  9. Right click on the new folder's name and Choose Close to remove it from your profile.

I can't send email because I haven't been able to make sure that the sender name is my current account.


What email client are you using? As I understand from your rather brief description you asking how to verify if your email is the default account.

For example if running MS Office Outlook 2003:

Click tools > email accounts > tick view or change existing email accounts > click next.

Under email account window, if you have multiple accounts, select the one you want to use and click on Set as default > click finish.

But like I said would want to know what email client you using?

How to download outlook for ms office 2003


You do not want to download the Free Outlook 2003 (any site offering free outlook 2003 is a scam/spyware filled) You can download Outlook free as a trial from Microsoft. Do not trust and Outlook or other Office software from any place besides Microsoft.. You want to download Microsoft Office 2007 Pro which is paid software. MS Outlook 2003 is not free. Go to Microsoft.com

Cant open attachments


That's not a problem with Vista, rather it's most likely a problem with the web server. Make sure you entered all your web server information in correctly (pop3, SMPT, etc), and make sure your mail server supports MS Outlook 2007. Just double check everything. If that doesn't work, try completely un-installing and re-installing Outlook 2007. If all fails, try downloading a 3rd party mail application and see if that works.
