Question about Cuisinart CJK-17BC Cordless Electric Kettle

Open Question

Black plastic flakes in the water.

After the kettle boils and I pour the water in the cup, black flakes appear. They see to be coming from the flip lid. I removed it and cleaned it, but the plastic bits are still breaking off in to my tea cup. Can I order a new flip lid?

SOURCE: sediment in my electric tea kettle

it is very hard to get rid off ass the sediment comes from the tap water untill you boil the water you dont see this sediment and take it for granted that the water is clean but as soon as you put it in a electric kettle this sediment builds up on the element then it brakes off and floats around in the kettle most new kettles have a filter near the spout so when you pour the water out it traps it in the filter then this can be removed and cleaned but the sediment floating in the kettle is hard to get out you can clean the element and descale it and then just keep pouring water in and out of kettle till its all out but it will soon build up again there are two ways to stop sediment one is filter all the water before putting in kettle but this can be slow process so not worth doing or the best sollution is buy a kettle that has a filter by the spout of the kettle and clean this regularly hope this is some help to you............................................

I could be that you have some debris in the hole. Try running a pipe cleaner though it a few times and see if it helps.

Why does the water taste funny after two . Months use

Usually taste change is created by a build-up of something inside the kettle or pot. Try the Baking Soda cleaning method:

  • Pour one cup of baking soda into the kettle.
  • Add water to fill
  • Heat the water and baking soda to boiling
  • Unplug the kettle and allow it to set for at least 10 minutes.
  • With a scrub brush or other scrubber, gently scrub the inside of the kettlepot. Be careful not to burn yourself.
  • Once it's all clean, wash with soap and water normally and rinse really well
That will usually get out any old residue that's affecting the taste

The lining of the kettle on the inside bottom is boiling away. What is it made of and is this dangerous?

Stainless Steel doesn't boil away. What you're seeing is the mineral deposits (mostly calcium) left behind from heating the heavy water you're pouring into the kettle. Descale it, pour it out and rinse every month or when it gets bad if you like. These deposits won't hurt you but looks nasty. Another option is to use filtered water instead of tap water. Hope this helps a little...

How to cook maja blanca

mmmm my favourite.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh sweet corn kernels
  • 1/4 cup sweetened flaked coconut
Directions
  1. Butter an 8-inch baking dish or pie pan, and set aside. Mix 1/2 cup of water with the cornstarch in a bowl, and stir until smooth.
  2. Combine the coconut milk, 3/4 cup of water, and sugar in a saucepan over low heat, and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Bring the mixture to a boil, add the corn kernels, and then stir in the cornstarch mixture, stirring quickly to avoid lumps as it becomes very thick. Bring the mixture back to a boil, and simmer until fully thickened and smooth, stirring constantly, about 2 minutes. Pour the maja blanca into the prepared dish, and set aside to cool until firm, about 2 hours.
  3. Place the coconut flakes in a dry skillet over medium heat, and stir to toast. Watch them carefully so they don't burn. Remove the toasted coconut flakes to a bowl, let cool, and sprinkle over the pudding before serving.

I turned on the cordless electric kettle without water! the metal rod inside the kettle turned black? was it burnt? i tried boiling water again and it worked. but is the metal rod toxic or not? can i still...

Yes, if your worried, use a fine emory paper to clean off the tarnish from the heat scorch. You may have shortened the life a little on the element but it is fine as long as it is not spalling, of flaking.

My Defrost drain is clogged in the freezer. How do I unclogged this area. It seems the drain opening is not a simple opening at the top, does it have a zig-zag?

Try two things. First boiling water then get a cup and pour that hot water in the drain. If that dont work and it seems all the ice is gone, you need air pressure. I use a 3/8 clear plastic hose and blow threw the opening drain. these two tricks usually work for me

What solution will work to clean out the sediment that settles in non-electric teapot? We gave very hard water in our area and the pot if full of white flakes after the water boils.

For that model, instead of the usual vinegar, the solution you need is 1tbsp of cream of tartar for every 2 cups of water. Cream of tartar is normally a spice, so it would more likely be found in the spices section of the grocery store rather than the cleaners section.
