My monitor power stays on but the picture will go black after a few seconds. I changed my cables and still the same. What can I do?

The screen will come on for a few seconds but then goes black. There was no powersurge.

I have a similar problem with the same model in that it blacks out.

Actually I think it may be on but if it is the intensity is way way dim.

If I switch, to another machine - same problem. Both machines are Dell, but all other monitors seem to work on them.

If I turn the power off then back on the image that is supposed to be
there flashes briefly, enough to see the pictures/graphics - in a
stable frame - that may be on the screen but not long enough to read
anything. There is no scrolling or otherwise horizontal lines or
artifacts to indicate there is anything wrong with the image being sent
    to the monitor.

I estimate the time it flashes on to be about half a second or less.

    Any suggestions?

Is it worth fixing? What about costs if I do?

I hate to throw away an otherwise good monitor. There is enough landfill.

    Thanks.

I have the same problem with my monitor. I've tried booting in "safe mode" to get the lowere refresh rate but still, the screen only stays on for about 2 seconds then it goes blank and the green power light stays on. I've tried it on other computers and it still has the same problem. I'm thinking the monitor is fried or at least a new monitor would be cheaper than fixing this one. Anybody have any ideas?? Thanks.

When the monitor does come on, is it during the POST (when booting)?
Then blanks out after the system starts up?

If this is the case, the refresh rate may be set too high. CRT type monitors scroll rapidly when this happens, but LCD's just Black-out.

To check, try booting in 'Safe - Mode' (pressing F5 or F8 during boot). This will boot your system with a display setting at a lower resolution and refresh rate.
If your monitor functions normally, we're on target.
If it still blanks out, I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Comment me back with the test results. We'll act accordingly.

I have two Viewsonic VA720, attached to the same computer. About a month ago on of them decided to turn white when it powers off. It will stay that way for a long time, and finally to black. Any idea?

What voltage do i need for my ViewSonic VA720

Monitors and PCs (amongst other things) use a fairly standard power cable. You should not need to worry about the specifics as there is generally no transformer needed for a monitor.

Have just hooked up my Viewsonic VA720 moniter as the main moniter to a new laptop that I have. The laptop is an ACER Travelmate 6293 running windows XP. When I come to start up my computer each morning...

You most likely have a capacitor that has changed value. When a capacitor goes bad it will work after it heats up. Sometimes a bad cap will have a bulging top or show signs of leakage. Sometimes can only be checked with a meter.

The light turning to orange means the monitor is not getting a signal from the computer. Check your monitor cable at both ends and make sure it is in very tight and secure at the computer end as well. Also check to see if the computer stays on when the light goes to orange on the monitor. The power cord for the computer might be loose.
