I have an 80gb ipod classic and it works fine, but when I connect it to my lap top it does nothing. I have tried to reset, I have tried different usb cable and port but nothing seems to work. It just seems as if it is not hooked up at all. Please Help.

- I have vista, maybe I should have added that it has worked just fine in the past and then all of a sudden I connected one day and it just would not do anything. What would cause it to work fine one day and then the next day nothing.

Ok this use to happen to me. First uninstall it and then install it again. That way it also gets the latest version. Now check and see if it works on other computers. If so try using a different port to put it in. If dosn't work on ANY computer, its a effect in the Ipod itself and you will have to repair it. Im not totally sure if this will work, but go into "Computer" (my computer) click on the devices with removable storage and click on it and see if it will open with itunes. If nothing seems to work you can always buy a wall charger or radio that charges your ipod without the use of a computer.

- Oh also if nothing i said works above, try the following.
Reboot the computer
Change USB ports
Try a different cable
Update USB driver software
Uninstall and reinstall USB driver
Try the iPod and cable on another computer to rule out a bad Pod.
Reboot the iPod (most are switch on then off the hold and press and hold menu and center until the apple logo appears.)
It might need some time. If the battery is dead it might take up to 15 minutes before there is enough power in the battery for the iPod to come on.
If you use Win XP with the Yahoo security software, it can take a few minutes before anything happens
