No matter how many 'rings to answer' I set the answering machine to, as soon as the machine answers it drops the call a few seconds after the greeting starts. I've tried plugging the answering machine directly into the wall jack and also into the cordless phone base but get the same results. Thanks in advance for help.
My GE 298669 was working one evening and not the next morning. Phone now rings endlessly but no messages are picked up or recorded. The battery was replaced, connections checked, cord pulled from unit (not wall) for a full reset and reinserted all with no effect. Normally I'd suspect a power surge, but there is a surge protector on the unit and other devices on the surge protector seem OK. The unit is about three years old.
We replaced the battery of our GE 29869GE Digital Answering Machine, disconnected it from the power [not the cable from the machine] and now when someone tries to call us, and we are not at home, it just rings 3 or 4 times and then the line goes dead.
Strangely though, some messages come through!
We do not know what else to do. Any suggestion?
Thanks, C.

I reset the machine by disconnecting the power and the bell line from the unit. I reset the date, time etc. When the greeting is over and it says "Pease leave a message" there's a 3 second pause followed by a beep.It doesn't record and does not display that a call came in. It did work before. It's 2 yrs old.

DO YOU HAVE DSL ON YOUR PHONE LINE? IF SO THIS COULD BE THE PROBLEM

I have had the same problem when trying to connect the GE-29569 to my PBX. The PBX manufacturer suggested the the answering machine might be pulling too much power, which would result in a dropped call.
I have not resolved this problem yet. However, the machine works fine when connected to my home line, but still does not work with the PBX. Since both work fine separately, I can only assume that power requirement might be the problem.
