Question about Lexmark Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

I have a Lexmark X8350 printer. The factory settings are for full color and High quality printing. For every day stuff I would like to save some expensive ink and use the Quick Print and printing color images in black. However, I cannot find the way to change the default settings. Culd someone please tell me how to unlock the factory default settings. Thanks.....Conrad

    Dear IIrishDruid;

    Didn't you get my reply of yesterday??? I explained why it didn't help me. OK...here it is again. I tried all the things you suggested before I got your reply. The only problem is that I can get it to print in "draft" mode OK.... but the very next time I print it goes back to the factory default condition...which is locked. I needed some info on how to unlock the factory settings...and that's why I gave you a "Thanks for Trying" rating. It didn't solve my problem. See the original request... i.e. "Could someone please tell me how to unlock the factory default settings."

    If you could tell me that..... I'd give you a.....FixYa!!!

    Dear IrishDruid;

    Thanks again for trying, but I have tried all the things you've mentioned previously. And that's what I've been doing...but as mentioned it takes about 5 clicks to change the setting to "draft mode" each time I want to print something. This printer is not on a network. It's hooked to a single personal computer. The thing I haven't mentioned previously was that I did unlock the factory settings about 2 or 3 years ago when I got this printer. However, since I reloaded the operating system on my computer, because of computer "junk problems", I had to reload all the software...which included the Lexmark printer. And you must understand how frusturated I am because I can't get the factory settings unlocked as I did the first time. So I know it can be done. And I've been to every nook and cranny in this program and still cannot find the "unlock" screen that I know I found originally. As you've stated at the end of your message.... "there is no way to over ride the factory settings"... I'm agreeing with you ....but I still would like an answer as to how I did it originally. It's the same software as before.

    So...once again....Thanks for trying.

This can differ b/n manufacturer and models, but basically what you have to do is get in to the printer properties window. Go to File>Print. In the box that pops up, make sure your printer is selected and click the "properties" window. THere is usually a tab that says "Printing Preferences", but like I said, this can vary. Just go thru all tabs and if you are looking to print in black, look for an entry that says "Print in grey scale" or "Economy Print". That should resolve your issue. Be sure to click OK in the box when you're done :O)

    Sorry, but why only a "Thanks For Trying " rating? Thats a negative rating. Didn't my solution help you?

    Is this printer on a network, and do you have admin rights on the PC?

    You will have to set the properties you want first, then go to "Save Settings" menu. From the “Save Settings” menu, you can name and save the current Print Properties settings for future use. You can save up to five custom settings. Then you can select the chosen setting next time you want to print.

    Other than this, there is no way to completely over ride the factory settings, as the factory settings are set to provide for optimum usage of the device.

We are seeing dark smudges on the paper. We do not have a manual and I need to know how to take the roller out and clean it.

  1. Print the Print Quality Pages (Config Menu>Prt Quality Pgs).
  2. Verify if the defect shows up on one color or all colors.
  3. If one color, replace Developer of corresponding color and PCU
You can also try the following:
  1. Verify if media is supported and proper paper settings are set.
  2. Try to print with the paper type setting change to heavy on the printer. (Menu > Paper Menu > Size-Type > Tray1 > Type > Heavy Paper > Check button)
  3. If persist, go to Diagnosis Menu and change the fuser temp. setting to high on printer. (Diagnostics Menu > EP Setup > Fuser Temp > High > Check button)

Color is dull

If you have the Lexmark software installed, you should be able to select the print quality through that most packages offer a choice of print density (dot per inch) and/or 'Draft,' 'Normal,' 'High' qualities whereby you can trade off quality for economy. Variations in paper quality can also have a huge influence on the contrast and color saturation.
