Question about Sony KP-46WT510 46" Rear Projection HDTV

Sony KP-46WT510 convergence IC's and checking resistors

Hi,

I keep seeing these comments about the resistors connected to the IC's and I would like to know how to go about checking them to find out if any are bad? I have also seen a couple suggestions about where to buy the IC's from and concerns about not getting the Sanyo replacements. Would you have a recommendation on a supplier?

Again Thank you

You have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

>>>Solution<<<<

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors.

Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself.

The three colors on our set no longer converge. When we do the "flash focus" it goes through the routine but nothing is changed afterward. If we try to do manual convergence nothing moves or changes.

This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Replaced STK's, fuses ok, +/- 22 VDC ok, still can

did you checke the two 5amp IC protectors located on the G board? Those will usually blow when the original ICs fail.

Sony brick

the resistors in question are located right next to the convergence ICs. Just lift one end of the resistors out of circuit and check them for being open. The resistors will be all the same type , check all of them usually 1 or 2 of them will be open when the IC goes out.

Convergence problem

you will need to replace the stk ic's they are mounted to 2 large heat sinks in side the tv. the ic numbers are on the chips themselves. i do believe it is stk392-510 for sony. once you have the number you can buy these anywhere online. just put new ones in and should be good to go. if this doesnt work then there are a few resistors and fuses by the ic's that sometimes fail.
