Question about PC Laptops

1 Answer

No power We just put a new battery in our computer, the only thing that would come up was a black screen saying operating system not found. We started to get it to work and now the computer just shut down and we cannot get it to come back on. We plugged in the ac adapter but there are no lights coming on and staying on. The red light comes on and blinks 4 times and goes off again. Any ideas?

MY FRIEND HAS A TOSHIBA LAPTOP.SHE DID SYSTEM RESTORE 3 TIMES(SHE PANICKED).NOW THE COMPUTER SAYS FILES MAY BE CORRUPTED.IT TRIES SYTEM REPAIR.WHEN ITS DONE SCREEN GOES BLACK.IF YOU TRY TO START NORMAL IT...

I was never put my file data at system disk. It's mean I always have two partition drive on my computer. So when the system crashes and can't repair, I can free to re-install the system without affecting my data. Base on my experience there is nothing to do than re-install your system. Backup your data first if its placed on system disk with Live operating system that you can found on internet such as SLAX Linux.

I tried to turn on my hp laptop. At first it flickered and and then I took the battery out and then I put it back in and turned on my laptop again. but the screen was black. Now it remains black.

Hello,
Even though a lot of things might have gone wrong and caused this,
But I will try and tell you some troubleshooting steps that you can try.
First of all, disconnect your battery from back of the laptop, and try to power your laptop without the battery there, if it powers up, then just get a new
battery.
Second, get a screw-driver, remove all the RAM(memory sticks) at the back of it, clean their interface with an eraser, and try to power it on first without
them, then replace them back and power it on.
Alternatively,
Remove all your RAM(Memory Sticks), and clean the tip of the connector with an eraser, and re-insert it one after the other.
That is, if you have two of them, after you insert the first one, put on your system and see if it works, then do the same thing with the other one.
If the two of them works, them insert the them all. but if it is just one that worked, just remove the other one that is not working and replace it.
Also from what you have just said, I suspect that your hard drive is likely to be corrupt, or having a bad sector on it.
To be sure of this, disconnect your hard drive from the laptop, and power it up without connecting the hard drive, if it boots up to the point where it says:
"Operating System Not Found" or "No Bootable Device Found", then that shows that your hard drive needs replacement
Kindly Let me know how it goes.
Hope this helps.
Goodluck!

Unfortunately it sounds as if the hard drive is clicking and not detecting because it has failed. At this point you will need to locate the operating system media for your system and purchase a new hard drive and start from scratch.

Laptop starts to boot, goes through XP screen and then totally powers off

you have to isolate the problem. you need to know if its a hardware or a software problem.

first, turn the computer using the AC adapter. (you need to disconnect the battery from the computer). If system loaded fine, it means to say that the battery doesn't have enough power to power on the computer. If the same thing happens, you can try loading the system to the bios screen. if this works fine, it means to say that windows could be causing your system to shut itself off. If the same thing happens, you might need to remove the components of the computer one by one. (memory, hard drive, cd drive).

Operating system not found media test failure will not reboot aspire 3680

Installing an operating system from one computer and inserting it into another computer will not work specially when they are from different manufacturers because the components in them are different.
The Windows install has to be done on the intended computer.
The media test failure error message refers to a faulty disk controller or a faulty hard disk.
