Question about Filter Queen Majestic Canister Vacuum

My filter queen majestic needs help

The last time I turned it on it bogged down then started to smell like burning rubber so I turned it off and unplugged it. I have no clue how to remove all the outer to get to the motor so I can see what the problem is and repair it myself. Does anyone know what my problem may be with the vac. and once I take the plastic mesh cone off how the heck to I get to the motor?

The smell and noise comes from the actual vacuum not the attatchments.

Try replacing the belt. It's not a difficult procedure, just unplug the machine, turn it over, remove the two screws which hold the chrome plate on and you will see the belt. Take the roller brush out by pulling up on one side, then remove it from it's housing. Then you will see what will probably be a worn out belt, rough on the inside and stretched. Replace the belt making sure to rotate the roller to ensure proper alignment. Then replace the chrome plate, and plug it in.

How do I get rid of the bad smell coming from my filter queen

Change all 4 of the filters, and wash the dirt container with soap, water and a little bleach. The only other thing that would cause a bad smell would be the actual motor, but that would be more of a burning smell. Good luck!

I bought 2 used filter queens. Does the power head always bog down to the point of stalling out when vacuuming. Very strange for a high end vacuum.

I shouldn't. Check the power nozzle brush to make sure it's clean. Remove thread, hair, etc. that may be wrapped around the brush.
Check the tautness of the belt. If it's too tight it will cause strain on the motor, which will result in this.
Check the ends of the brush. They may need cleaned, or the bearings may need replaced.
I highly recommend taking it to an authorized Filter Queen distrubuter for diagnosis and repair.

There are instructions for replacing the brush at the following site, if you decide to do it yourself.

I got a used filter queen majestic vacuum at a yard sale and want to fix it up and start with new filters where do i get the filters and how do i change them

Hello,

Well you bought a really great vacuum cleaner. The Filter Queen's are extremely durable and very well made vacuums. They sell brand new for over $2500, so picking one up at a yard sale was a great find by you.

There are several different filters on this model that need to be replaced. Here's a link to a 6 month supply kit that we sell, which contains all the filters needed for a 6 month period:

The only other part that you should be replaced on a regular basis is the belt (only if the vacuum has a motorized power nozzle for cleaning carpets). The belt should be changed every 6 months or so. Even if it doesn't break, these belts will stretch out and not work as well as a new belt would. Here's a link to the belt that will fit your Filter Queen Majestic:

Here's a link to the owner’s manual for a newer Majestic model. This is the only one that is available online. Even though it's a newer model, the maintenance and care will be exactly the same for your model.

I really hope this was the information that you needed. If you have any follow up questions, please don't hesitate to ask them by using the comment box here on the Fixya repair page.

If this did help you, please be so kind and rate my repair helpful, or leave some feedback for me. This is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

My filterqueen majestic is 10yrs old and just started to spark and smell of burning ive took it apart

If you have a burning smell from the motor, your motor is shot. You should be able to buy anew AMTEK Lamb motor for about $85-110 US. Request a double ball bearing motor as it will have a longer life span.
Also buy a fresh internal filter kit. There will be a small 5 .5 inch filter disc inside the cone protecting the motor in the event that the cone tears. Replace it .Also save and reinstall the small insulating disc that sits between the top of your motor and the screen at the top of the vac. This is to prevent electric shock. This disc is the size of a coin.
Post back if you need more help. Wiring is very easy. Do NOT twist your wires before installing into the connectors, twist the connectors, then tape to be certain they are on tight.
