When it is running it has blue lines running across it. After the set has been on for about 1/2 hour, it will flash and then shut off or go into stand by. We are trying to decide if it is worth fixing. We are having trouble finding someone to come to the house to fix it. And it is to heavy to haul into a shop. Can someone give me an idea of what it should cost to fix or is it worth it?

Re: Sony KP-65XBR10W After awhile, shuts off
It sounds as though you have an bad blue CRT. Due to the age of the unit and the likely case that you also have weak green and red CRT's, based on the age, it would probably not be a good investment. Please be sure to rate my response if you found it helpful.

Most likely you have a Green CRT that is failing. Sony no longer stocks the CRT assemblies for most of the older Projection sets. Instead what is required is to send the Green CRT assembly back to Sony (minus the Delta Lens), so they can replace the Tube on the Optical Coupler. This is a major cost of about 400.00 to 500.00 for the CRT plus the the tear down and reassembly time. Then you need to do a major Convergence alignment because the other two CRTs are aligned to the Green CRT. Due to the cost and the fact that Sony will not be supporting the older sets much longer, I would not invest the money into it.
I hope this helps,
It sounds as though both of you have intermittent shorts in the picture tubes which I have seen before. Unfortunately, due to the age of the units and the likely scenario that you will be looking at relacing the other CRT's, it is probably not a good investment to repair the sets. If you are still interested in repairs, there are places that will rebuild the CRT's, but I believe the original parts are no longer available. If you found this solution to your liking, please be sure to rate me. Thanks.
it maybe you blue crt (picture tube). mine turn blue and then shuts off. i got it repaired for 460. 300 for the part 160 to install. you can try to adjust the voltage settings behind the speaker screen and see if that clears the problem. if not its you blue crt.
