Tv shuts itself off

I have a samsung dlp hl-s5687wx/xaa tv and continues to shut down when it wants to. I notice the tv emits alot of heat from the back so put a floor fan behind the left side of the tv and it seems to stop the tv from shutting off.

I have the hl-s5687wx/xaa and this thing just out of nowhere just started shutting off. The first time it stays on about 5 minutes then it shuts off like every 5 minutes for about 20 minutes. Almost like it has to heat up to stay on. If you have any suggestions email me.

Same problem. Shuts down a lot now. Have had it for two years and never had an issue with it. I will try the fan behind the tv to cool it down. I noticed the heat thing too.

I also noticed that my Samsung HL-S5687W shuts off without warning randomly. I have not been able to detect a consistent pattern. Sometimes it will play for a few hours without problems after powering up the TV, sometimes it can start exhibiting the power-off issue after being on for a few minutes or 15 minutes, or 1 hour.

Look for the computer processor inside the TV. It needs to be cleaned. A can of compressed air will work. The processor is overheating and causing the tv to shut off. Look for the small fan that is supposed to keep the processor cool then remove the dust.

Good luck!

I had a similar problem with my HLP5063W after about a year of owning the TV. The TV would shut off automatically after an hour or so of viewing.

After a little while I took a guess that the TV would heat up enough to cause the TV to expand... just enough to trigger the automatic shut off behind the rear panel. So, I tied down the automatic shut off switch and haven't had a problem since in almost 3 years.

Alot of times the inside is filled with dust witch makes the curcuits heat up. Shuting down is an internal safety measure. Try takeing the back off and blowing out the dust with compressed air.

The lamp ballast or Color wheel might be the problem. We have experienced both issues with the tv shutting down. Also check the hours on your lamp as it might be getting old.

your keeping a part that is warming up and shuts down your shutdown that protects the tv from burning up... cooler... to find this you might need a hair dryer or a can of freeze mist.
I believe the left side is your high-voltage section.
you can also let it warm-up without the fan .. let it shut down and feel parts with set unplugged to see what is running hot.

Samsung 50" DLP TV

Since the lamp generates a lot of heat, the fans are continuously monitored for correct function. The owner's manual should show you the location of the fans. Make sure that the grills covering the fans are clear of dust and that the fans are clean. Sometimes dirt can cause the fan blades to slow down enough to trigger the safety alert.

Keep us posted.
