My brightness settings are reversed so dim is bright and bright is dim. The USB port also affected the brightness I recently noticed this because I unplugged my iPod and it bent down a little bit and got brighter then I released it and it got dimmer.

On most laptops a combination of the FN (special function) key and the normal keys controls this kind of thing. On your specific laptop the combination to increase brightness is FN-right arrow and to decrease brightness is FN-left arrow. A summary of these settings can be found on page 44 of your user guide (downloadable here if you don't have it easily available - adobe PDF reader required to view.)
Also note the the display settings for connected to adapter and for running on battery may also be set wrongly, Control Panel -> Power Saving holds these settings.

You have a "FN" key in the lower left section of your keyboard. There should also be other keys with ink the same color as the FN. Look for one that has a sun and upward pointing arrow. Press both and your screen will get brighter.
If that does not work then your video inverter is starting to go bad and will have to be replaced.

You could have a faulty inverter, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

This is a Function of the laptop, you need to adjust your Power Settings. See the PC, does that to save Battery power, it will always be brighter, generally, on the Wall supply. You may need to set up a profile for both.
