WHOA! THIS SOUNDS LIKE ONE OF TWO THINGS. FESS UP. ARE YOU USING THE 1/2 STOP ON THE PLUNGER BEFORE YOU SNAP THE PHOTO? THAT 1/2 STOP IS SUPPOSE TO FREEZE THE ACTION FOR A SPLIT SECOND BEFORE YOU TRIP THE SHUTTER. IS IT BROKE?? IF IT KEEPS TRYING TO FOCUS IT'S GOING NUTS TRYING TO RANGE TO ALL THE THINGS HITTING THE LENS, NEAR, FAR,FARTHER,NOT SO FAR AND ON AND ON. THAT IS WHERE THE 1/2 STOP PRESS IS SUPPOSE TO STOP THE RANDOM SEARCHING FOR DISTANCES AND SETTINGS. WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE TRIGGER 1/2 WAY JUST BEFORE YOU SHOOT, THAT LENS IS GOING NUTS AND YOUR PICTURES ARE GOING TO DRIVE YOU NUTS! WHY WON'T THEY STAY IN FOCUS?? 1/2 STOP, 1/2 STOP, VERY IMPORTANT. OF COARSE I COULD BE COMPLETELY BONKERS AND YOUR CAMERAS HAS JUST HAD A SPAZZ ATTACK AND IS IN DESPERATE NEED OT THERAPY.REALLY THOUGH, IF THE 1/2 STOP IS NOT WORKING REPLY TO ME AND I WILL POINT YOU TO A SANE SITE THAT WILL GIVE YOU A QUOTE FOR REPAIRS IF DESIRED. I HAVE ENJOYED YOUR PROBLEM, IT HAS BEEN FUN, IT NEEDS TO BE FUN, FROM TIME TO TIME, LIFE IS WAY TO SERIOUS. I WOULD LOVE TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM! GOOD LUCK FOR THE MOMENT, KEEP GOOD NOTES

REALLY SORRY TO HEAR IT ISN'T JUST THE 1/2 STOP AND THAT YOUR CAMERA DOES APPEAR TO NEED SERVICE. IF YOU GO UP ON THE SONY SITE YOU WILL FIND REPAIR SERVICES AND SOME OF THEM HAVE FREE QUOTES BEFORE YOU SEND IT FOR SERVICE SO YOU KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT. SO, THE 1/2 STOP WILL NOT STOP THE RANDOM RE-FOCUSING? IT MUST HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FOCUS SENSORS IN THE CAMERA. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP WITH THE SONY SITE JUST REPLY TO: ARCLIGHT1217 AND I WILL TRY TO LOCATE THE RIGHT PAGE. THANKS!

Blurry picture if zoom is used ( no Sharp mage)

I'm out of practice because my camera suddenly stopped working 6 months ago, but I don't recall having a problem with blurry pictures when I used the zoom. Sometimes, it takes a few seconds for a pic to come into clear focus. I think the trick is to just keep working with it.

Sony Cyber-shot takes lots of blurry pictures in

first thing you can do is to try reverting cam back to factory settings.to do that initialize the camera.it's under menu>setup settings>main settings1>initialize. after initializing, set cam to auto adjustment mode (green camera icon in mode dial). what to avoid when taking pictures:
1.subject too close (use macro if needed)
2.insufficient light
3.subject movement
4.camera movement (that's caused by you)
5.incorrect camera setting
5.incorrect camera operation
btw, before you take a picture, press the shutter button halfway down first to give the cam ample time to focus.you'll see a flashing green indicator on the screen that means cam is focusing.when the indicator stops blinking cam is ready for the shot.press shutter button all the way.review your picture.if still blurry, you may try changing iso (for dark or fast moving subject, note:the greater value the noisier the picture gets), metering mode and focus settings by going to the shooting menu (press menu when your in P or program mode). hope this helps.tnx:)

My camera takes blurry pictures

I would try placing the camera on the table (very solid surface that doesn't move) then activating the self timer to take a picture. this will make sure you eliminate the chance that it's you and not the camera. if it still comes out blurry and you haven't inadvertantly switched it to manual focus, if the little thing has such a feature, you got a busted camera.

Camera does not focus properly in Screen Mode.

Make sure you are not trying to take pictures through glass windows as they may affect the auto focus. Good Luck!

You may already be doing this, I don't know, but on most newer cameras, you have to push the "take picture" button down half way to let it focus then press it the rest of the way to take the picture. It wouldn't hurt trying to see if that works.
