Click on the start orb > click control panel > click power options > in the upper left column click on "choose when to turn off the display" In the drop down box choose how long you want to have the display on and the computer to sleep. Make sure to click on "save changes" before exiting.
For future reference install "God Mode" on your desktop. God mode is a super control panel that tells you how to make just about any changes you want on Vista or Windows 7. The instructions are here:http://www.techspot.com/guides/236-windows-god-mode/

Dell deminsion 4700 when i moved it,monitor, mouse, keyboard quit.monitor briefly displays power safe mode.pressing any key don't help

When you moved your pc you probably knocked the graphics card loose. You can open it up and try re-seating it. Make sure you unplug the pc first and then press the on button for 10 seconds to clear out all the power from the power supply before opening the computer up.

Also, If you are using a KVM... Unplug the KVM's power cord for 30 seconds and plug it back in. That will reset it.

After a while the monitor will fall asleep and wont go back on. I have to restart the computer in order for it to use the computer again and it'll repeat this over and over.

Try looking in the monitor setup menus, and changing the way that it detects an idle condition. Also check your video card to see how it is telling the monitor to goto sleep. Some use suppressed baseband, others use (very common) blanking. Change video card, may help monitor as well.
