Question about Jl Audio 250/1 Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

Please help Ok I had my amp hooked up and workin for some time now and just the other day the fuse in the wire blew. So when I replaced it and now the power on light comes on for a few seconds and shuts back off. I thought I had a bad connection somewhere in the ground or hot wires but i checked that and its not the problem.

Re: Please help

Check to make sure you speaker has not shorted. Try a different speaker. If this is not the case you could have an internal shorted transistor inside of the amplifier. or in some cases both. If it is in the amp and you are comfortable working on the amp remove the cover and along the side connected to the heatsink. You will find the smps and the output transistors. use an ohmeter and check across the three legs one way you sould get one reading and if you flip the leads you will get another. if you encounter no resistance, no matter which way the leads are placed. That transistor will probaly need to be replaced. But check the speaker before you do anything. and the wires going to the speakers.

Hooking up subs in my 96 probe se. The battery wire from the cd player had bare wire it ouuched back or cd player and my interior lights and cd player and amp have no power I lost my fuse. cover

Well, you clearly blew a fuse. You should be able to visually see which fuse it is by pulling them one at a time. The little wire inside will be broken for the one you need to replace.

I hooked up a car amp and when i put the fuse in,it blew.then i disconnected the power, installed the fuse and as soon as i touched the power cable, the fuse blew again...

Some kind of dead short is there. It may be inside the amp circuit of with outside wiring. You have to find it by meter check. Contact a auto electrician and let hinm detect the fault. OK.

Won't Turn On--- Positive, Negative touched sounds to me like you may have fried the capacitor...try hooking it up without the capacitor in line, and check to make sure the in line fuse on your power lead is ok( usually in theengine bay) and also that the fuse on the amp is ok too.

Hok up amp and all fuses blow on distribution block

somehow, DC car voltage has gotten to the speaker outputs of your amp! your fuses are saving your speakers from meltdown. your amp has melted down. toss it after checking with ohmeter as follows: disconnect amp completely. red wire from ohmmeter to +12Vin. black wire to SPK+. if ohms are anything below 1000 ohms, then toss it. An electrical short is equivalent to flooding your entire house with a leaky faucet. No telling what that rapid current will encounter along the amplifier section. you could get lucky and find all power MOSFETS have shorted and replace them. good luck.

My amp is only pushing the left.

Swap the RCA inputs to see if the dead channel follows the RCA input.

Blowing Fuses

If you disconnect the speaker wires from the amp and the fuse blows only after the remote voltage is applied (when the head unit is switched on), the output transistors are likely shorted.

AMP not workin

if you saw smoke something fried, im surprised it still kicks on at all. my best advice is if you kno how to use a soldering iron, see if you can locate the problem, (i.e. melted wires and such), if not best would be to look for a new amp. hope this helps

My amp light is on but no sound from speaker

If the amp light is one and the protector light wasent on then I bet you blew your speaker??? take an ohm meter, measure each speaker with nit disconnected from the amp.. If they all measure what there suppose to( like 4 to 8 ohms) then the amp blew out and unless you have training on solid state electronic repair, you should seek a pro to fix the amp for ya.. Good Luck
