Sharp R-305KS door release problem

From moment of receipt, the door release push button did not have any resistance to release the door. Could the lever have been broken in shipment? Is this a replacement part? Where do you obtain the special hex type screwdriver head to remove the sheet metal housing?

Yes it is possible the door open lever got broken in shipping.

If your model has anti-tamper screws, you can remove them using using a T20H Torx type or GTXH20-100 screwdriver. If the correct tool is not available, there are several ways to remove the screws:

- Use a hammer and a small punch or similar tool to knock out the middle post of the screw, then use a standard T20 Torx bit to remove the screws. (Use safety glasses).

- Insert a small flat-bladed screwdriver (such as a jeweler’s type) into the slot between the post and the edge, tap the screwdriver firmly with a hammer to loosen the screw, grip the screwdriver with pliers, and remove the screw.

- Use a hacksaw or Dremel tool to cut a slot in the head of the screw, then use a flat-bladed screwdriver to remove the screws. (Use safety glasses).

Once the cover's off, you can see the door opening parts. It's probably the lever.

The best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

Why will door not open

Hi,
This happens when the latch hook loosens up and moves so that the door will not open when you press the button.
It's a very easy fix, but should be done by a repair person so that the door can be adjusted propery and no microwaves escape.

When I set the timer and close the door, the door latches fine. When I push the start button the timer starts to countdown but the microwave doesn't start. If I push the door release in about 1/8 " ,...

If your model number is in the Sharp R-1500 series, then that's a problem with the bottom door switch or its mount.

Latch button will not release door on Sharp R-5H84 microwave . Push button and can pull the door open with a slight amount of force.

Sounds like a portion of the release knob is worn or broken, or a metal piece behind it is bent.

My Sharp Model R 305 S, mfg May 2007, SN 228658,IS TRIPPING THE BREAKER. Less than a year old but I do not have receipt. Purchased at navy exchange, Annapolis, MD

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker (or GFI) when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If that's model R-305KS, we have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.
