Question about GE Profile¿ 26.5 Cu. Ft. Stainless Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Icemaker, PSS27SGRSS

1 Answer

PSS26SGRD GE side by side

Totally disappointed at GE quality. Display malfunctioning after only a couple or so years. First it started with all iced being crushed instead of one cubed. Then water only works if you press button, then open and shut freezer door and then try to dispense (yeah, I know, weird)
Is it the motherboard? If so is it hard to replace. Of course the fridge is out of warranty.

My frig is about three years old and I am disapointed that this is a recuring problem. The water and ice stop dispensing without any warning.

It seems to fix it self without any reason.

Could be just the board on the dispenser only. not the main board or mother board.

just a little bit hard to replace because of the problem on how to open the front dispenser.

tnx 4 using fixya,

Your inlet valve is malfunctioning. Sometimes when they go bad they either let in to much water or none at all. It is located on the back under accesss panel where your water line connects to your fridge. Rate me if I helped you!

Sadly i would say the board is malfunctioning and needs replacement. There is nothing in the fridge/ freezer that if malfunctions can cause that.

Replace an Interface Disp ASM on GE side by side

Part number WR55X10415 . Pull out from the bottom of the board , may have to use a small screwdriver to pry outward from the bottom to remove . Would suggest removeing top cap on freezer door and unplugging connector first .

Water and Ice dispenser quit functioning

the solution to this problem is so simple it makes me laaugh out loud. the bulb in the door that illuminates when a glass is placed under the water dispenser draws too much current when it gets old. just remove the bulb and it will work fine. you can then replace the bulb whenever you find it at a hardware store. I had the same problem, and spent hours online looking and was ready to buy a new motherboard to fix it. I have alot of faith in GE, and all of the bashing is a horse ****. GE makes turbine engines that power alot of the airplanes we fly in and i think they know a thing or two about engineering.

Well, the solution to this problem was posted in this thread
http://www.fixya.com/support/t1295372-ge_profile_ref_ice_despenser_motor_not

It seems that the bulb in the front panel is pulling to much current as it ages and it makes the control panel in not work properly. Removing the bulb will fix the problem - just fixed mine.

Also seems to match your symptoms (works sometimes and then not others - bulb current is inconstent, light dims when dispense lever pressed - again wrong current draw).

Good luck

GE Profile Ref. Ice despenser motor does not turn. Auger turns

I had this same problem today, and after tearing apart the door and digging with the multimeter, I found that the bulb was drawing to much current {probably due to age} and that pulling it made everything else start working. The high resistance was drawing too much current from the IC on the door panel board.

I'm going to get a new bulb tomorrow, but if you yank the bulb it'll probably work. {If you have the same problem}

Freezer thawing and refreezing

The freezer is supposed to thaw at least everyday. Only, you usually kant tell because it doesn't do it long enough to melt the food so you don't notice it. You have a couple of components to check here. 1 is the defrost timer, which unless it has been changed recently, has the same pre determined defrost time. So you would have noticed by now. Next is the defrost termination switch. If you have excess ice on the evaporator, this will make the defrost longer than before. Unless the switch is going bad causing the defrost to go extra long, there is an excess amount of ice that is more than usual. Bad door seal will cause this. A slightly low freon charge. And a thermostat that is malfunctioning, causing the freezer to run continuously, will make excess ice buildup in the freezer. I would make sure the kids aren't leaving the door open and the gaskets are good. If not the case, call a repairman.
