Question about Brother Multi-Function Center MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Won't recognize ink cartridge

The printer keeps flashing that I need to reinstall yellow, but every time I take it out and put it back in, the printer still repeats the same message. It doesn't say the same thing for any of the other colors, just yellow.

is there any way to make the printer work without the color cartridges cause I don't feel like wasting my money buying another cartridge when the one already in is about 80% full, I don't ever really print color documents, mostly black.

Try and make sure the slot for the cartridge is clean so the sensor can see, also make sure this is a new cartridge

Another way is to tape over part of the cartidge, the area without a lable, thats how it senses how much is left, just tape over it carfully and it should think its always full, just do that to a old on or something

Hello ,

Start by opening your ink cover and read the LCD screen; this will alert you as to which ink cartridge is not being recognized; make sure the cartridge that it is telling you is empty has been changed.

If the unit is still not recognizing the cartridge you have changed, follow the steps below.

  1. Unplug the power cord for the printer unit.
  2. Open the ink cartridge cover and remove all ink cartridges.
  3. Close the ink cartridge cover.
  4. Plug the power cord back in.
  5. Reinstall the ink cartridges.

Thank you,

Pat

Won`t recognize new ink cartridges. Still insists black is empty, other colors low, although all have been replaced. Any way to reset or override? Thanks

Hi there
There are only a few steps you need to do to reset a Brother printer ink cartridge and once you do it, you will be up and printing in no time. There are actually two things that a Brother printer uses to detect ink and you can manipulate one or the other.
Instructions
Things You'll Need: · Black electrical tape, masking tape or duct tape
1. Step 1
Identify the printer If your printer uses memory, you can tell which printer you have by looking at where the cartridge goes in, if you see two "eyes" and a part of the cartridge goes in between them, follow Step 3. Otherwise, continue with Step 2.
2. Step 2
Clear the memory by taking the cartridge out and unplugging the unit for 30 seconds. Then, plug it back in and put back in the cartridge. You may need to do this five times, as the memory holds the last five cartridges.
3. Step 3
If the Brother printer has "eyes" where the cartridge goes, you will need to block in between them with a piece of tape so that it thinks the cartridge is always full. Simply put a piece of tape on the piece of the cartridge that goes in between the eyes to block the path of the infrared beam

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

When I try to print, a message comes up saying that the printer is busy. There is nothing in the queue. Meanwhile the light is flashing, alternating yellow and green. I had just installed a new color ink...

Try this.
Remove the ink cartridge.
Remove the plug from the wall (or back of the printer).
Wait a full minute.
Plug in the power cable.
Reinstall the ink cartridge.
Test it...
I am guessing that the printer is trying to recognize the new cartridge - and got a hiccup in the on-board computer.

I had the same problem with mine but I bought a refill cartridge instead of a new one and went through three refilled cartridges when I found that it was that I needed a brand new one. For some reason, the HP printers and some other printers need to know that you are using the same brand of ink as the printer. if it is another brand it wont except it and it wont let you print anything! So make sure it is a brand new hp brand ;)

If you can see ink in the window, just unplug machine and plug in while holding the stop button. Sometimes errors are just held and not reset, so that plugging in power while holding the stop button will clear them.

Yellow ink cannot be recognize by the printer

The problem is that the priter can't detect the ink, because the cartridge has low level ink. I put scotch tape and colored it yellow- on the part where the ink is detected - so the printer will detect the color I put on the tape. BUT as others said it can damage your printer if you will always do this.

Will not recognise all cartridges

some problems with compatible cartridges can be solved by taking all the ink out and powering the printer off then back on then put the ink back in, you might have to do this a few times also make sure no ink or dust has built up on the pins.

Epson R1800 printer won't recognize new ink cartridge

You can remove magenta & double check that some tape was not left behind on the contacts. Take a clean ragg & dampen it with alcohol. Clean the ink cartridge's (copper contacts & inside the the ink carrige). Re-install the magenta, (tight fit). Power off the printer. Wait a few seconds & power it back up. If it fails a second time with no other errors. Like the above. Than the magenta may be defective. Have a recipt? Return it for a replacment.
